This Wednesday, January 13, it was known that the Colombian singer Shakira decided to sell her extensive catalog of songs made up of a total of 145 musical themes to the British company, Hipgnosis Songs Fund.

A statement shared by the artist herself states that “I feel honored that writing songs have given me the privilege of communicating with others, of being part of something bigger than myself. I know Hipgnosis will be a great home for my catalog and I am very happy to partner with this company”.

Investments in intellectual property

Through its social networks, the company confirmed the incorporation of Shakira’s musical repertoire, although the figure that the celebrity will receive for said agreement is still unknown. In addition, the songs of the Colombian are added to the music library of Hipgnosis that already has the works of Dave Stewart (Eurythmics), Debbie Harry (Blondie), Chryssie Hynde (Pretenders), The Chainsmokers or Mark Ronson.

An information presented by Variety magazine indicated that recently the British company obtained 50% of the rights to Neil Yong’s repertoire, some 1,180 songs for about 50 million dollars.

Notably, Hipgnosis Songs Fund, a song management and music intellectual property investment company co-founded in 2018 by Nile Rodgers and Merck Mercuriadis, who at the time led figures such as Beyoncé and Elton John.
