The finger pricks become a simple puncture when patients with diabetes insert their finger into “a kind of clamp”, similar to the one that measures oxygen in the blood, to mark the results” in a mobile app.

According to the team from the University of Seville, the results are available in 15 seconds, since the infrared sensors are very fast. However, they continue to work to reduce this time, since traditional glucometers take 5 seconds on average to show the results.

The engineers have stressed that “measuring glucose with this device requires the person to remain still during the reading, since it is very sensitive to movement and could give errors.”
