The new independent TikTok app, called TikTok Pro, available for download on the App Store and Play Store in Germany and Portugal, will soon be arriving in Spain.

This is an unexpected move by the Chinese video platform, amid tensions in the United States, to support “the promotion and support of charitable causes and NGOs, as well as joyful and educational content.”

TikTok has described the new app as a friendly and fun tool. It incorporates the Sunshine program, “designed to turn small actions within the app into real support for NGOs.”

In this sense, TikTok Pro will allow users to accumulate “virtual sunshine,” which consists of “points that can be allocated to the participating organization on the platform of their choice. TikTok will convert this virtual interaction into a real donation.”

“Virtual sunshine” can be accumulated by inviting friends to join TikTok Pro; also, “interacting with content from charities (liking or sharing videos, for example), following accounts related to social causes, or even performing searches linked to these initiatives.”
