Buyers of the American chain Walmart in the United States or Puerto Rico could be entitled to a refund of up to $500 for a mass lawsuit filed in 2022 alleging excessive charging on some products, including those that indicated the retailer’s discount.

At the time of filing the lawsuit, those affected alleged that “they were deceptively induced to think that they were paying reduced prices on products such as meats, poultry and seafood.”

On the other hand, they pointed out that Walmart had wrongly placed the weight labels on packaged products, such as oranges and tangerines, among others, “falsely announcing that the weight was higher than it really was.”

The refund agreement states that Walmart customers in the United States or Puerto Rico who have purchased “products by weight or bagged citrus at a store, supercenter, or neighborhood market store in the United States or Puerto Rico since December 19 October 2018 through January 19, 2024, may be eligible for a cash payment.”

Regarding payments to buyers, the sums are as follows: USD 10 for those who do not have the receipt or purchase invoice but can attest to having purchased up to 50 products by weight or bagged citrus fruits in person; USD 15 for customers without a receipt or other proof of purchase, but who can certify having purchased 51 to 75 products by weight and/or bagged citrus; USD 20 for customers without a receipt or other proof of purchase, but who can attest to having purchased 76 to 100 products by weight or bagged citrus; USD 25 for people without an invoice but who can attest to having purchased 101 or more products by weight or bagged citrus; up to USD 500 for those with receipts or other proof of purchase for each merchandise by weight and/or bagged citrus purchased at a Walmart store during the agreement period. In this case, clients will receive 2% of the total amount of the merchandise by weight and bagged citrus purchased justified up to USD 500.

The store chain has clarified that buyers can try to retrieve receipts for their purchase through the company’s website. And the deadline to make your claim online or via email is next June 5.
