Three countries have joined forces in the fight against crypto scams: the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada. Operation Atlantic allows for anticipating attacks, identifying victims, and detecting the use of AI in fraudulent schemes.

The alliance of the three countries “seeks to identify criminal networks, thwart phishing attacks, and recover funds stolen from unsuspecting investors.”

Operation Atlantic “integrates key institutions such as the U.S. Secret Service, the UK’s National Crime Agency, and Canadian entities such as the Ontario Provincial Police and the Ontario Securities Commission.”

According to Brent Daniels, Deputy Director of Field Operations for the U.S. Secret Service, investment fraud and phishing scams, which have escalated alarmingly worldwide, result in losses of millions of dollars annually.

“Crypto fraud is reaching critical levels, with phishing as the primary weapon. Criminals convince victims to approve malicious transactions on the blockchain, giving them control over the tokens in their wallets,” authorities stated.

Furthermore, blockchain specialists have revealed thefts of billions of dollars in recent years through the use of artificial intelligence, as “deepfakes, automated chatbots, and identity theft facilitate massive campaigns that contact hundreds of thousands of targets in hours with convincing messages.”

Hence, the importance of Operation Atlantic in confronting this global and adaptable threat. “Authorities are committed to a swift and coordinated response to counter increasingly frequent scams. This coalition could set a new standard in the fight against cybercrime.”
