Hyundai Motor Group, an automotive corporation originating in South Korea, launched HTWO, its brand and business platform dedicated to hydrogen, during the H2&FC EXPO (held in Japan), reaffirming its vision for a “future driven by and featuring clean energy.”

At this exhibition, Hyundai showcased its leadership in hydrogen technologies across the entire value chain, from production to its application in mobility solutions.

What is HTWO?

HTWO is Hyundai Motor Group’s hydrogen brand, designed as a comprehensive platform offering complete solutions within the hydrogen ecosystem.

The Iconic and Surprising NEXO

Furthermore, at the Japan Mobility Show, Hyundai Motor Company unveiled the all-new NEXO model, an advanced fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV), marking its debut in Japan and underscoring the company’s commitment to sustainable mobility and innovations related to the use of hydrogen.

To clarify, the Hyundai NEXO is a hydrogen-powered vehicle. It uses a fuel cell that converts hydrogen into electricity to power an electric motor, emitting only water vapor. It is an advanced and extraordinary example of sustainable mobility.

The new NEXO joins Hyundai Motor’s extensive portfolio of electric models showcased in Tokyo, including the INTEROID concept car, the award-winning IONIQ 5, and the INSTER Cross. Together, this range highlights Hyundai’s electrification capabilities and its commitment to offering innovative mobility solutions that meet the demands of a constantly evolving automotive landscape.

Hyundai Motor Group announced the launch of its “A Safer Way Home” campaign, showcasing the Autonomous Firefighting Robot, which it officially donated to the Korea National Fire Agency on February 24, 2026, in Seoul (South Korea’s capital and largest city, with over 10 million inhabitants).

This robot represents an advanced mobility solution for operating in active fire scenes and constitutes a next-generation disaster response platform, jointly developed by Hyundai Motor Company, Kia, Hyundai Rotem, Hyundai Mobis, and the National Fire Agency.

Through this initiative, the Group highlights the value of robotic technology as a tool to protect and save lives.

How does it improve firefighter safety?

The Autonomous Firefighting Robot is deployed preventively in high-risk scenarios where firefighters face dangers such as:

– Collapses

– Explosions

– High temperatures

– Toxic gases

– Dense smoke

The system remotely identifies and assesses the situation, approaches the fire’s source, and extinguishes it directly, reducing human exposure to extreme conditions.

A real message from the field

The campaign video incorporates real images and testimonials from active-duty firefighters. Among them is Im Pal Soon, leader of a rescue team from Fire Station 119, who operates these robots and provides valuable commentary and narration for the audiovisual material, which includes footage of the robot’s first real-world deployment on January 30 at an industrial fire in North Chungcheong Province, South Korea.

Key robot technology and main features

Based on the HR-SHERPA multipurpose unmanned vehicle, the robot integrates autonomous electrification, advanced remote operation, enhanced vision, and thermal management.

Its structure includes:

– Water spray cooling system

– Thermal insulation with resistance up to 800°C

It also has these other components and/or systems:

Advanced driving assistance system: Recognizes terrain and obstacles, reaches speeds of up to 50 km/h, and can overcome steep slopes and vertical barriers up to 300 mm.

AI-enhanced vision camera: Uses short- and long-wave infrared thermal sensors to transmit real-time images even in extremely low visibility conditions.

Photoluminescent high-pressure hose: Emits its own light in dark environments, helping to guide access and evacuation routes.

6x6 system with motors integrated into each wheel: Enables 360-degree rotation, high maneuverability in confined spaces, and resistance to water and dust.

Toward a fully autonomous system

Beyond firefighting, the robot functions as a data acquisition platform that digitizes disaster scenes.

In the future, it is expected to evolve into a fully autonomous system capable of:

– Analyzing the origin of the fire

– Prioritizing suppression

– Calculating the most efficient extinguishing method

“The true value of this robot is not only its heat resistance, but its function as a ‘Physical AI’ operating in real-world scenarios. It represents a paradigm shift for artificial intelligence applied to firefighting,” said Seung-ryong Kim, Acting Commissioner of the National Fire Agency.

Mobility with purpose: A technological and conceptual leap

Hyundai Motor Group reaffirms its vision of mobility focused on making the world safer and more efficient. The development of autonomous robots for extreme scenarios is part of its ongoing commitment to the safety of first responders and society at large.

The National Fire Agency anticipates that this technology will play a key role in hard-to-reach areas, strengthening operational capacity and efficiency in disaster situations.
