The American company Amazon announced the implementation of an airlift, in alliance with the United States Department of State, the Airlink association and the UN World Food Program (WFP), for the distribution of humanitarian aid to Venezuela.

This measure seeks to establish specific guidelines and strategies for the distribution of aid to the South American country after the earthquakes of last June 24.

Through a statement, Bettina Stix, director of Community Impact at Amazon, indicated: “The airlift will channel supplies to trusted nonprofit organizations operating on the ground in Venezuela so they can immediately use them to serve the most affected people.”

For her part, Stephanie Hochstetter, director of the World Food Program in Venezuela, stressed that her staff “will coordinate the distribution and storage of aid that arrives on Amazon flights.”

Likewise, Tommy Pigott, spokesperson for the State Department, assured that “this will help ensure that vital assistance reaches Venezuela as quickly as possible.”

The Venezuelan Banking Association (ABV) has spoken out about fake accounts collecting funds and humanitarian aid for disaster victims in Venezuela following the earthquakes.

The organization “detected the proliferation of fundraising channels of dubious origin, a fraudulent practice that seeks to divert financial contributions from their true charitable purpose.”

The ABV has recommended several preventative measures to the public to avoid becoming victims of scams and, above all, to help ensure that all donations effectively reach those who need them most.

Some of the ABV’s suggestions are:

• Make donations through a duly registered NGO, as well as corporate foundations or recognized charitable institutions.
• Prioritize transfers to accounts in the institution’s name and avoid methods like mobile payments or transfers to individuals, except when you fully trust them.
• Never reveal personal information, user passwords, or OTP codes via calls, messages, or social media.
• Discard any suspicious links and verify that you are using an official application.

Through its World Food Programme, the United Nations hopes to collect $50 million in aid to assist some 500,000 people affected by the earthquakes that struck Venezuela on June 24.

Stephanie Hochstetter, head of the organization in the country, stated from La Guaira/Vargas State—the most devastated coastal region—that this amount “will not cover the entire disaster.”

According to the official, who spoke via videoconference, the WFP has already distributed emergency rations to thousands of people in the area. She also highlighted that the UN agency “currently has 3,000 metric tons of food stored in the country, enough to feed more than 10,000 families for two months.”

Hochstetter added that the program “is working on local purchases and coordinating with its teams in Colombia the rapid transfer of additional reserves. The goal is to scale up the response to cover half a million people in the coming months.”

The priority is to provide those affected with food, drinking water, shelter, medical assistance, and access to basic services. These efforts will complement the organization’s response during the earthquakes, when it “released $15 million in emergency funds and deployed more than 2,200 rescuers from 25 countries.”

Peru sent 14.5 tons of humanitarian aid to Venezuela, including food, supplies, and household goods, as assistance to those affected by the recent earthquakes in the country.

The shipment was made via a Peruvian Air Force plane, bringing items such as rice, noodles, vegetable oil, bottled water, as well as tents, warm clothing, supplies, and household goods.

Luis Vásquez, head of the National Institute of Civil Defense, indicated that 50 tents, each with the capacity to shelter five people, were dispatched. He added that “the aid being sent is in accordance with a procedure, whereby it is made available to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs so that they can report on the support provided to Venezuela. We are fully prepared to dedicate all our resources to help.”

Our thoughts are with the families and communities who have suffered losses and been impacted, including our employees, contractors, and partners in the country, as well as the emergency teams who continue to work tirelessly in the affected areas.”

Adam Lowmass, President of Shell Venezuela, stated: “Our priority is to support those affected, and we are collaborating with humanitarian organizations to deliver urgent aid where it is most needed. We are honored to be able to stand with Venezuela during this difficult recovery process.”
