China presented a national green consumption plan on Monday, January 5, focusing on seven specific areas through twenty policy measures detailed by the Ministry of Commerce and eight other government departments.

According to the announcement, the Asian country seeks to “strengthen incentives for green consumption, covering sectors such as agricultural products, household appliances, and accommodation services.”

This plan addresses the need to “expand the adoption of green consumption behaviors and accelerate the transition to low-carbon production and lifestyles,” highlights the official website of the Ministry of Commerce.

According to the government agency, the plan will prioritize improving the quality of services in sectors essential to daily life, “advocating for greater availability of organic agricultural products and wider adoption of energy-efficient appliances,” along with promoting new energy vehicles and strengthening the automotive industry chain, as well as promoting “camping in RVs, drive-in theaters, and road trips.”

Areas such as promoting eco-friendly restaurants, accommodations, and domestic services are also addressed.

The plan will rely on the creation of “new green consumption models, calling for the development of green supply chains and carbon footprint assessments. It also encourages the development of green leasing services, along with wider adoption of shared mobility, spaces, and assets, to promote more efficient resource use.”
