The President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, indicated that the Government’s forecast is that the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) will grow up to 4 % in the whole of 2023.

During his morning conference, the president highlighted the good performance of the Mexican economy. “We are getting up in relation to the situation prior to the pandemic. Mexico, unlike other countries, is showing progress.”

In addition, the president has also highlighted that he has done “very well” in terms of employment in the first quarter of the year, with an average salary that is “record.”

“This is also good data. Unemployment has fallen like it hasn’t been seen in 20 years. We are among the countries with the lowest unemployment in the world,” the president stressed.

Mexico’s GDP grew by 1 % in the first quarter of this year compared to the fourth quarter of the previous year, while the increase was 3.7 % compared to the first quarter of 2022.

Looking at the year 2023 as a whole, the OECD forecasts that the Mexican economy will grow by 1.6 %, while both ECLAC and the World Bank have a more negative forecast of 1.1 % and 0.9 %, respectively.

Japan’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) expanded by 1.7 % in 2021, compared to 4.5 % contraction in 2020 and a 0.2% drop in activity in 2019, according to published data by the Japanese government.

The growth of the indicator in 2021 as a whole reflects the boost in Japanese household consumption, with an annual increase of 1.2 %, after the 5.9 % drop observed in 2020.

On its side, government consumption maintained a stable growth rate, with an increase of 2.1 % in 2021, two tenths below that observed a year earlier.

For its part, Japan’s exports in 2021 grew by 11.6 % after the 11.8 % collapse in 2020, while imports increased by 5.2 %, compared to the contraction of 7.2 % in 2020.

Between October and December, the world’s third largest economy experienced GDP growth of 1.3 % compared to the previous three months, when it had fallen by 0.7 %.
