The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, authorized the public offer for the implementation of 5G technology with the Granting of Portions of the Radioelectric Spectrum.

After the signing of said public offer, the “development and deployment of new technologies such as 5G begins, to expand the Internet throughout the country, as well as other projects.”

During his program Con Maduro+ on Monday, September 23, Maduro indicated: “I proceed to sign the public offer so that Venezuela advances towards 5G (technology). Signed, approved, published and sealed, the telecommunications family in the country continues with great strength.”

He highlighted the development and progress of the telecommunications sector in the country and its consolidation as “a source of the Venezuelan economy.”

Maduro pointed out that during this year, Venezuela has increased Internet consumption to 11.1 Terabytes (TB), which translates into a significant increase in the demand for this service.

In this regard, Jorge Márquez, vice president of the Public Works and Services sector and director of the National Telecommunications Commission (Conatel), stated that this important step will help “improve the speed and quality of the service, in addition to strengthening cybersecurity with internal data traffic.”

In a press release, the Ministry of Science and Technology underlined the valuable alliance with Iran for the production of optical fiber, which will allow Venezuela to project itself towards Central America and the Caribbean.”
