In a statement, the governor of New York, Kathy Hochul, reported that more than 18,000 jobs were discovered in various sectors, ranging from technology to agriculture, with the collaboration of nearly 400 employers willing to hire immigrants who have obtained their work permits in the United States.

Governor Hochul directed the state Department of Labor on August 24 to collaborate with employers and determine which vacancies could be filled by immigrant workers, with the goal of providing them an opportunity to leave the shelters in which they have been since their arrival in New York.

This news comes in the context of the announcement made by President Joe Biden’s Administration on August 21, in which the granting of work permits to Venezuelan immigrants was announced. This measure will have a significant impact in New York, which has welcomed more than 100,000 undocumented immigrants in the last year, many of them from Venezuela.

Half of these immigrants are still in the city’s care, triggering a humanitarian and fiscal crisis of significant proportions.
