Google has indicated that “there will be four elements in which you will receive personalized recommendations: books, applications, search results and offers.”

The suggestions are evident both in the application store and in “other applications that may have advertising or different content recommendation systems.”

In the recent update of Google Play appears the “Collections” feature, which has been designed to make it easier to discover content and applications consistent with the user’s local environment and that will allow you to find “region-specific offers and applications, which can be particularly useful if you are exploring a new place or on vacation.”

When you accept permission to access the location, the Google Play Store will display the options: allow access only while using the application, allow it only once, or not allow it at all.

If the user does not want to receive recommendations based on their location, they must deactivate the function in the Google Play settings. To do this, you must go to the profile photo in the upper right corner, select “Settings”, then “General”, and deactivate the “Use device location” option.

Downloading applications has always been a way to install viruses or software on devices, since through them, they can obtain data or spy on the user. Hence, companies and operators recommend downloading them from official stores, such as Google Play or Apple Store.

These e-shops have security filters that determine if they are legitimate services or not and, normally, they monitor the applications before publishing them. Despite this, cases have been identified that have managed to evade the security controls of these stores.

Thus, a group of researchers advanced that a series of cybercriminals is using a series of methods so that these systems cannot detect malicious applications capable of infecting devices and that they manage to publish on official platforms.

In fact, “many examples” of malicious apps have been discovered on Google Play following complaints from affected users, and the most common ‘apps’ to hide ‘malware’ are usually cryptocurrency trackers, financial apps, QR code scanners and including dating-related services.

As of November 1st, Google no longer allows new users to search for and install apps from the Play Store that are outdated, that is, those that are based on at least two versions of Android below the most current .

The measure, announced in April, responds to Google’s policy update that modifies the target Application Programming Interface (API) level, the internal data invisible to users that indicate which version of Android they are running on. based on a certain ‘app’.

The company considers that raising the target API level “will protect users from installing old apps” that may not have the latest privacy and security features, and ensures that “the vast majority of Google Play applications fall within” the new ones. requirements.

Users who had installed outdated apps from Google Play before November 1 will continue to have access to them “on any device” with the version of Android OS that supports said application.

Developers can now join the test program that allows them to include an alternative payment system, in addition to the one offered by Google Play. In this phase, it is available only for applications with internal payments, excluding mobile games and apps for tablets.

The technology company clarifies on its Support page that participants in this program must pay the fees that the Google service. And in the event that the user chooses to make the payment with the alternative service, this rate will be reduced by 4 %.

By including an alternative payment system, when the user goes to make a payment within the application, they will find two options: the system chosen by the developer and Google Play, which will remain as an option to choose and not as the only payment method by default.

This program follows the one that Google launched earlier this year with Spotify, after launching this additional billing system in South Korea in September 2021. The new program is available to developers registered as a company or business, in the countries of the European Economic Area.

In a message published by the official Russian registry Fedresurs, it states that “since March 22, 2022, the company foresees its own bankruptcy and inability to meet its monetary obligations.”

The Kremlin’s rebuke of the US tech giant comes after several months of pressure to remove content deemed illegal by Moscow. The company through a spokesman confirmed its situation.

“The seizure of the Google Russia bank account by the Russian authorities has made the operation of our office in Russia, including hiring and paying employees, paying vendors and vendors, and complying with other regulations, unsustainable financial obligations”.

Coercion of technology companies

The embargo of the multinational account in Russia is a strong blow because it makes it impossible to carry out financial transactions and administrative processes, although the authorities do not block access to Google.

The company also indicated that the pressure has increased since YouTube, a company of the same group, decided to “block access to some Russian state-affiliated media, such as the RT channel or the Sputnik agency, as well as prohibit their monetization through advertising.”

The real cause for which the company will declare bankruptcy is currently unknown. If it will be due to insolvency as a result of “the millionaire fines imposed by Moscow for not abiding by its restrictive digital censorship laws or due to open complaints at the request of Russian media.”

The company clarified that despite the closure of the office and its operations on Russian soil, the free services of Gmail, Google Play or YouTube will remain active.

WhatsApp viruses are malicious programs created by hackers who seek to scam people using different methods through the popular messaging service.

Users believe that they are installing a legitimate app. However, by placing a fake app they run the risk of being harmed, because they can access their phone information through notifications and even install other malicious apps without user consent.

On the other hand, the fact of accessing the notifications gives cybercriminals the opportunity “to skip the two-step verification that many banking apps require, above all.”

Official platforms avoid Trojans

People can avoid being victims of Trojans as long as “you don’t download apps outside of the official stores, that is, the App Store or Google Play”. Some Smartphones do not have access to the Play Store and “you have been tempted to install an app through unofficial platforms and that is precisely where you run the risk”, because official platforms such as Google Play are responsible for offering reliable apps that will not damage the mobile.

On the other hand, sometimes they advertise other apps that serve to “complement” other already existing apps, but you should keep in mind that you run the risk of obtaining unwanted viruses or Trojans.

It is important to note that if you have any of the following WhatsApp mods installed: GBWhatsApp; OBWhatsApp; WhatsApp Plus is recommended that you delete it.

Users also have the option to install an antivirus on their mobile, although it is not very frequent, nowadays the phones have enough space that it will not affect the storage unless the phone is very old. Among the most common antivirus brands, Bitdefender Mobile Security stand out.

Currently, the terms of service require applications to use the integrated payment method of the Google Pay store, for which the company takes a commission from each purchase made in these apps.

As the company pointed out on its blog for developers, its official application store was created “with the highest standards of privacy and security so that users can be sure that their confidential payment data will not be at risk when they make purchases in the application.”

Therefore, it opened the door to alternative billing systems that “comply with equally high security standards” to protect user information and facilitate purchasing processes. It has done so following the steps it took last September in South Korea, which became the first country to require Google Play and Apple’s App Store to allow developers to include external payment systems.

Google also indicated in this statement that, after launching this additional billing system in the Asian country, it is exploring billing at the option of users in “other selected countries.”

Although it has already been withdrawn unfortunately users could still download it through unofficial channels.

To commit the scam they impersonated the name of a company that specializes in creating wallpapers for mobile series and movies, which makes many users fall into the trap and download it believing that it is a verified app.

In addition, the fact that there are files with the icon of the famous game doll once it has been installed on the device, has convinced many users that it was a verified application.

Variant of the “Joker” malware

Stefanko classified this malware as “Joker”, which is one of the most common and dangerous banking Trojans out there. It’s a malicious software recorded and registered since 2017.

This is responsible for modifying the telephone billing services to make charges, authorize monetary operations and subscribe to payment services without the consent or knowledge of the victim.

Since “Joker” is known, Google eliminated nearly 1,700 applications with these characteristics from its download application Play Store, according to the cybersecurity company ESET in a statement.
