The notice will tell the Internet user “that they must update to a more recent version to reactivate synchronization and access their account data.”

The Chrome Sync system gives access to “settings and information saved in the browser from different devices through the Google account.” This means that through the system, queries are made for favorites, passwords and extensions “without having to save them again each time Chrome is used.”

If Chrome cannot be updated, it will be impossible to access information stored on other devices or “recover your data if you reinstall the browser”.

With the update, Google is aiming to stabilize the browser, as well as reduce the risk of access by cybercriminals through obsolete versions.

The update will change the way users use the application. “Google Chrome will force the use of your face or fingerprint when filling in a password.”

When entering a website on the Internet, it will no longer be enough to use Google’s password manager. Once the change is implemented, when entering a site that requires a password, the data will not be filled in automatically. The page will request the fingerprint or face scan to complete the process.

The user will use the method that is enabled on their device. But in case you do not want to force the authentication method, you can leave it as is from the Google Chrome settings.

Currently, the feature is in testing period in Google Chrome Canary, which is an experimental version that the company regularly tests.

The subscription plan for Chrome, which has shaken the market, could be extended to other products, such as its search engine.

This is a strategy by the technology company towards the “monetization of its services, and could mark the beginning of a new era for its popular web browser.”

Chrome Enterprise Premium makes available to business users, its focus at the moment, “up to four additional functions for safer web browsing, including some based on AI.” New features include automatic malware warnings and data leak prevention.

The company has emphasized that it will continue to offer its browser for free to all users, without altering existing features. On the other hand, “it offers a free plan for companies, called Chrome Enterprise Core, as an alternative to the Premium version.”

In the digital environment, the advanced protection measures against malware, phishing and other web security threats offered by Chrome Enterprise Premium are very useful.

In this version, customers have the option to mark users, domains, and data as high-risk files to enhance the level of protection; perform “security analysis and protect data remotely, even outside the corporate network.”

Its countless benefits have recently allowed Google Chrome to make three new features available to users in the United States.

According to the StatCounter portal, the most used browser in the world is advancing at a rapid pace, leaving behind its main competitor, Firefox.

At the moment, the new features are only available in the United States and are expected to be available for the rest of the countries soon.

Three new Google Chrome tools based on AI

According to the aforementioned portal, the three functions that Google Chrome users now have are:

Automatic organization of tabs: Depending on the content of the tabs that the user has displayed or open, this function will proceed to organize them intelligently, by groups. An invaluable help for content creators, designers and other specialists, who use multiple online tools simultaneously.

Creation of your own themes: The browser is incorporating the possibility of creating your own themes with the assistance of artificial intelligence, very similar to the functions currently available in Android 14 and the Pixel 8.

Assistance in writing elements on the web: This refers to the already known generative text models with the help of AI. However, in the case of Chrome, it is known that in the next update the browser will include the Help me Write function, visible in the text tabs of the user’s query pages.

According to the recent announcement, Google Chrome will test this Tracking Protection feature to phase out cookies progressively, “It will be a gradual step as it will be rolled out to 1% of Chrome users around the world as part of the Privacy initiative “Google Sandbox, which seeks to eliminate third-party cookies for everyone in the second half of 2024.”

Privacy Sandbox is used to implement a new, much more responsible approach to browsing.

Google has noted: “We build new site tools with support for key use cases and provide time for developers to transition. And as we roll out Tracking Protection, we’re starting with a small percentage of Chrome users, so developers can test their readiness for a web without third-party cookies.”

Those chosen for the test next January will receive a notification when entering Google Chrome on desktop or Android. While browsing the website, third-party cookies will be restricted by default. In the event that a necessary query page does not function correctly due to this measure, the user will have the option to temporarily enable them on that site, “with an icon next to the address bar.”

The initiative is focused on protecting IP addresses and user data.

Through IP Protection (formerly Gnatcatcher), within the firm’s privacy tools portfolio, Google will work with a list of pre-established domains to gradually implement the new function that will be divided into several phases.

In this sense, Phase “0” will involve the use of a single ‘proxy’ owned by Google and will send requests to domains owned by the firm. “This first phase will allow us to test our infrastructure and, at the same time, will avoid the impact on other companies and will give us more time to refine the list of new proxy domains,” the company told dpa.

A small group of automatically enrolled customers participate in these first tests in the United States. “The company has also recognized that, for the use of this privacy solution, neither the proxy nor the network intermediaries will be aware of the content of users’ traffic during browsing.”

They will work with a two-scenario proxy system: “while Google will run the first of these, the second will run through an external content delivery network (CDN). Google hopes to ensure that no proxy can see both the client’s IP address at the destination.

With customer privacy as its goal, Google launches a new layer of protection for IP addresses and in this way seeks to prevent them from being used as a tracking vector, which would be a gateway for cybercriminals today.

Google has noted that if the IP Protection system is compromised, hackers could “see and manipulate the traffic that passes through it. To mitigate this situation, Google is considering requiring users to authenticate to the proxy, preventing proxies from linking web requests to specific accounts, and introducing a rate limit to prevent DDoS attacks,” said Programaticaly portal.

With information from dpa and international media

For this reason, he has decided to update Chrome once a week.

The increase in attacks by cybercriminals, with increasingly sophisticated methods, is the main reason for this change, since until now Chrome was updated every two weeks. The new measure will take effect “in version 116 of Google Chrome.”

From Google, they have indicated that the Chromium open source project, “the basis of Google Chrome, allows anyone to access the source code and follow in real time the discussions between developers, the code contributions and the corrections made by collaborators.”

The technology giant has indicated that the security updates will be applied in a first phase “to the development versions of Chrome (Beta/Canary)”, since exhaustive tests are carried out that check “its stability, performance and possible compatibility problems before to be implemented in the browser version”.

Although hackers always find some crack to sneak into the system and carry out their attacks, with weekly updates Google seeks to optimize data protection quickly and effectively, in addition to focusing on a consistent update scheme.

In this sense, Google is testing a new function that blocks suspicious downloads, even if they come from known sources, such as HTTP. Let us remember that its security protocols establish the parameters for Internet searches, with the express recommendation to visualize that the page starts with HTTPS.

In this way, the blocking of third parties in searches is reinforced, with a significant reduction in the release of viruses, malware and ransomware, among other threats to users while browsing the Internet.

In its Google Chrome Help section, the user finds the tools to manage browsing security through HTTPS. The new function that blocks HTTP downloads, in the experimental phase, could be implemented permanently once the release of Chrome 111 occurs, which is presumed to occur in March.

They collect data on your preferences in themes and purchases and then send you similar suggestions. There is a possibility that they will disappear in 2023, so companies such as Mozilla or Apple are already making forecasts.

These digital files, which can be sent by the domain itself or by providers outside the page where you are browsing, are very important for advertising, as they ensure future visits to the same site. However, suspicions of trafficking in users’ personal data have sparked controversy at different times.

Faced with the possibility that in 2023 cookies will be definitively deleted by Google Chrome, different companies have begun to take measures. Apple, to cite an example, in the most recent iOS update, allows the customer to make the decision about “whether or not the applications that are installed can collect data for advertising purposes.”

So far, there is no definitive information on the elimination of cookies, nor on alternatives to the advertising market. However, it has been revealed that the process could occur in two stages. In the first, which would have to be applied at the end of 2022, a period (about nine months) would be opened to developers, publishers and the advertising sector to migrate their services. In the second stage, scheduled for the end of 2023, Chrome would begin the gradual elimination of third-party cookies over a period of three months.

In the midst of this process, issues such as user privacy remain pending, whether there will be alternatives to cookies whose elimination could take place definitively at the end of next year, and third-party advertising.

For now, there is talk of a themes API. That is, the way of advertising and attracting clients would be adapted by means of a tool that selects the topics that the Internet user usually resorts frequently. Those themes would be stored for three weeks, before being deleted.
