The Italian government, through Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti, announced the reduction in its GDP growth forecast to 0.6 %.

“The forecast is contained in the Public Finance Document, the first text with macroeconomic forecasts for the coming years, the former Economic and Financial Document (DEF), and comes at a very complex time for short- and long-term forecasts.”

In addition to halving the GDP growth forecast from the 1.2 % forecast in October, it was reported that GDP growth will be 0.8 % each year in 2026 and 2027.

Other key figures in the report indicate that the public deficit will public d be 3.3 % in 2025, 2.8 % in 2026, and 2.6 % in 2027. Furthermore, “Italian public debt will be in line with previous forecasts, reaching 136.6 % of GDP in 2025, 137.6 % in 2026, and 137.4 % in 2027, thanks to the liquidation of a controversial incentive program known as the Superbonus.”

The increase in defense spending demanded by NATO allies such as the United States and Italy is in line with the 2 % target.
