The Paraguayan General Directorate of Livestock Services (Senacsa) issued a health alert over the weekend due to a case of avian influenza in the Department of Colonia, Uruguay.

In this regard, “the Paraguayan veterinary institution requested officials from the Regional Health Coordination offices, heads of Zonal Units, Points of Entry, producers, and the general public to remain on high alert to report any sightings of sick or dead birds.”

Given the alert in the neighboring country, Senacsa warned that birds showing signs of illness or that have died should not be handled as a protective measure and to avoid the risk of contagion.

The agency emphasized that rapid case reporting will allow for appropriate health measures to be taken to prevent the spread of the disease in Paraguay.
