This Sunday, Uruguay voted to elect a new president. Yamandú Orsi, a leftist from the Frente Amplio party, won the victory, thus ending the conservative term of the current president, Luis Lacalle Pou.

Orsi defeated the official candidate, the center-right Álvaro Delgado, with 98 % of the votes in the second round of the presidential elections.

In his first message to the people, after learning the results that gave him victory, Orsi said that he will be “the president who calls for national dialogue again and again to find the best solutions. Of course, with our proposals, but also listening carefully to what others tell us.”
