The social network Instagram announced its plans to integrate non-fungible tokens (NFT) through a pilot test that will be carried out with a small group of users in the United States in order to experience the new functionalities of the platform.

The purpose is for the social network to admit assets from the main networks where NFTs are found, such as Ethereum, Polygon, Solana and Flow. If the test yields favorable results, it will be extended to other countries.

Platform users will be able to connect with the main digital asset wallets and link them to their social network profile.

The network warns that the assets will not leave the wallet “a smart contract will simply be used to recognize the ownership of the NFT and thus be able to publish it”, which rules out, in the first instance, the trading of NFTs through Instagram.

The idea of trading assets through the social network “is very interesting, but at the moment the administration does not seem to take it into account.” Instagram reported that it will not charge any tax or fee to its users for sharing or posting their NFTs.

Meta has been very secretive with the information about this new platform initiative and the timing of the pilot test and the scope it may have are unknown. It is assumed that due to the existing regulations in the different countries, its global application is not very feasible.

As Meta is known, it is currently the company most linked to the metaverse and also owns the social networks with the most users in the world. Initiating the link between the networks and the metaverse is a major step forward into the future.

The agreement establishes that the search engine giant through Google Cloud will be the network operator of the Canadian study of Blockchain Dapper Labs. The vice president of Google Cloud North America, Janet Kennedy, highlighted that the “multi-year partnership will help Dapper to expand its operations through a scalable and secure infrastructure provided by Google” for the entire ecosystem of NFT, video games and applications.

For his part, Roham Gharegozlou, CEO of Dapper Labs, sent a message to the Flow network, welcoming Google with which he ratifies the strategic partnership: “Very excited to welcome Google to the Flow blockchain. In less than a year since the launch of the main Flow network:

2.2M unique wallets, less than half of NBA Tpp Shot.

248 contracts in the main network (Flowverse).

18.5 million blocks and 49.7 million transactions.

Now, with more than 3,000 new active developers, Google is jumping on the bandwagon to help scale. “

Flow compatibility

The cryptocurrency developed by Dapper Labs is Flow, which is compatible with various and listed NTF collections in the market, among which are: NBA Top Shot and CryptoKitties, which generated around $ 230 million in sales last February and according to information published in international media, the amount has tripled, reaching about 680 million.

This new crypto, Flow, is created “as a new generation of games, applications and as the basis for the management of digital assets that produces them. In addition, it is fast, secure, friendly and easy to use” and was designed with a new generation of blocks that solves the problems generated by the old conventional blockchain applications.
