During the recent International Telecommunications Fair (Fitelven 2025), which concluded on Sunday, September 21, the Venezuelan government unveiled its National Telecommunications Plan 2025–2031, which is already being implemented, including the massive deployment of fiber optics and connectivity in remote areas, the expansion of the 4G network, and the promotion of smart cities, among other objectives.

The Director General of the National Telecommunications Commission (Conatel), Jorge Eliéser Márquez, was in charge of announcing the ambitious telecommunications plan, which also aims to improve service quality throughout the country, as well as “foster competition and adopt emerging technologies.”

According to the announcement, the plan comprises four strategic pillars that aim for a sustainable and participatory digital transformation:

1. Wired Infrastructure: Massive deployment of fiber optics (FTTH), connectivity in remote areas, and transition to the IPv6 protocol.
2. Wireless Infrastructure: Expansion of the 4G network along main roads and preparation for 5G deployment.
3. Sustainable Digital Transformation: Promotion of smart cities, applied AI, and environmental management of e-waste.
4. Citizen Organization and Participation: Strengthening the direct link between government and citizens.

Specific, immediate goals were defined, among which the most significant was “eliminating internet access gaps — areas without internet access — reducing them from 23 to zero before the end of the year.”  Additionally, the first phase of the National Internet Exchange Point (IXP) was activated, improving the efficiency of the local network.

During his presentation, Márquez presented figures demonstrating a significant upturn in the telecommunications sector in the South American country, citing a 343 % growth in fiber optic transport networks, 234 % in access networks, 288 % growth in FTTH (fiber to the home) deployments, and a 92.2 % increase in 4G users.

The CONATEL director emphasized that these advances are the result of private investment and public policies. He congratulated the sector, stating: “We have managed to connect families and communities throughout the entire country.”

Núñez gave a masterclass on ransomware, emphasizing the importance of raising awareness and fostering a culture of security and protection. One of the topics that most captured the audience’s attention at this edition of the event was related to banking security and the protection of online transactions, with an emphasis on online users.

Bancamiga was once again present at the 2025 International Telecommunications Fair (Fitelven), held from September 17 to 21 at the Poliedro de Caracas. This time, the bank highlighted its latest innovations to ensure customers can use its services securely.

In an attractive and well-equipped booth, located on the upper level of the iconic Caracas venue, attendees at the event explored related topics and expanded their knowledge about banking security, including solutions such as Virtual Lock, ID Check, and 2FA (two-factor authentication).

Three solutions, resources, or mechanisms that protect Bancamiga customers

The Virtual Lock is a mechanism that prevents third parties from using your information to make online purchases. It must be activated before any online purchase with a Bancamiga card. Once the purchase is completed, it is automatically deactivated.

Another security protocol promoted by Bancamiga for online shopping is ID Check. This is an additional authentication layer that confirms that the person making the purchase is the actual cardholder.

After entering the card details during the purchase process, the website will request verification using a code generated in Bancamiga Suite. Simply access the Bancamiga app, select the ID Check option, and choose “Generate Code.”

At the Bancamiga booth at Fitelven, visitors also learned about the benefits of 2FA or Google Authenticator, a security method that adds a second layer of verification to your account, in addition to the password. When you attempt to log in, the authenticator generates temporary codes that you must enter to confirm your identity and access your account.

Carlos Velásquez Valero, Information Security Manager at Bancamiga, personally addressed visitors and media representatives, answering questions and providing further details and preventive recommendations.

For Bancamiga, protecting the security of its transactions is paramount, and the bank strives to implement mechanisms that safeguard its clients.  It also regularly shares security tips through its communication channels, including the following:

1. Create strong passwords and never reuse them. Do not use your date of birth, personal information, or consecutive numbers. Use a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. Never use the same password for your email or social media accounts.
2. Do not share your personal information. Bancamiga will never call or email you to request your password, card number, or other personal information.

As in previous years, Bancamiga had its mobile branch at Fitelven 2025, a unit that has been traveling throughout the country for two years, providing banking services to Venezuelans. This offered a great opportunity for those interested to open accounts in bolivars and foreign currency, obtain a Bancamiga Debit Card, or purchase their modern point-of-sale terminals.
