The Administrative Service for Identification, Migration and Immigration (SAIME) of Venezuela announced that it has opened the process for issuing identity cards to people over 18 who have not yet obtained one.

Regarding this, the authorities indicated that citizens must go to the SAIME offices with their original birth certificate; a copy of the parents’ identity cards will be accepted as optional documentation.

The person applying for the identity card must “obtain the card at the same office where they initiated the application process, therefore they must provide an updated email address and phone number.”

On its Instagram account, the agency indicated that “when starting the process to obtain an identity card for the first time, the person will be interviewed by a National Electoral Council supervisor.”

On the other hand, the process for issuing identity cards to elderly residents of nursing homes throughout the country was announced as part of its José Gregorio Hernández Program.
