The UK financial giant IG Group became the first broker on Tuesday to offer retail clients the buying and selling of cryptocurrencies.

The London-listed entity will offer spot trading and “expands its multi-asset platform with direct access to bitcoin, ethereum, solana, and 35 other cryptocurrencies.”

The initiative was made possible through IG Group’s partnership with the exchange Uphold, which will be responsible for the custody of assets and the execution of transactions.

After the news broke, the list of client requests began to grow. The IG Group has warned that the transactions “will not be protected by the UK’s Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS), which protects up to £85,000 (approximately $115,000) in traditional products.”
