There are 6,000 identified exoplanets. Researchers from the Carl Sagan Institute at Cornell University (United States) identified 45 with Earth-like characteristics, with the potential to harbor extraterrestrial life.

According to the group of experts, “all the planets are located within the so-called habitable zone, an area that is neither too close to a host star to be too hot, nor too far away to be too cold.”

Lisa Kaltenegger, one of the authors of the study, published in the journal Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, indicated that on these planets, “life could be much more versatile than we currently imagine.”

Amid their research, the scientists also established the best techniques for observing the 45 planets: “the James Webb Space Telescope, the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope (scheduled for launch in 2027), and the Extremely Large Telescope, or ELT (which will see its first light in 2029).”
