The European Commission continues to work in the search for formulas that allow the increase of green taxation and for this they have proposed the review of the different European environmental taxes related to energy, in order to contribute to the recovery of the green pact.

With the aim of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 and restructuring tax policies, the commission also intends to finance its European Green Deal, which is aimed at completely transforming the continent’s productive system.

At an event on green taxation held in Brussels, Paolo Gentiloni, European Commissioner for the Economy, stated that the central axis of the manifesto is aimed at evaluating environmental taxes for post-covid recovery.

“Protecting the environment and mitigating climate change are at the center of our recovery strategy. In this context, a review of our tax policies at national, European and global level can help us emerge from this crisis stronger than before. That is where green taxation can play a key role,” Gentinoli reported during the event.

It is important to mention that for this year the European Union plan, directly linked to supporting the ecological transition, aims to lead by 2050 a broad management only of carbon dioxide (CO2) that it can absorb in its territory, while fo 2030 the plan will be aimed at regulating greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55 % compared to 1990.
