Police forces from different countries disarmed one of the most dangerous cybercrime networks in the world, known as EMOTET.

It operated with botnet-type software, which consists of a computer program that is responsible for infecting the computer network and then controlling them remotely, according to Europol and Eurojust.

Police from Britain, Canada, Germany, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Ukraine and the United States worked together to infiltrate EMOTET’s infrastructure.

Through a statement, Europol indicated that the police forces and authorities “this week have disrupted one of the most important botnets of the last decade: EMOTET.”

The network contained several hundred servers that were used to “manage infected victims’ computers, spread to new ones and serve other criminal groups”, Europol said.
