The LBBW partnered with the Bitpanda exchange to launch the pilot this year, addressing an increase in demand for the services in this market. The bank will be able to offer “investment as a service to store and acquire cryptocurrencies to its institutional and corporate clients.”

In the announcement made this Monday through the social network X, which replicates the information from the German bank’s official statement, which clarifies that the pilot plan will begin in the second half of 2024. “It will initially include the storage and trading of Bitcoin and Ether, the two leading cryptocurrencies by market capitalization.”

Jürgen Harengel, COO of LBBW Corporate Bank, said: “The demand for digital assets from our corporate clients is increasing, and we are convinced that cryptoassets will establish themselves as a building block for other business models.”

For now, the bank is in the initial stages, taking care of the theoretical and regulatory bases that will allow the offer of the crypto custody service to its corporate clients. Other entities that have also received approval from the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin) to operate in digital assets are Commerzbank and a division of Börse Stuttgart, Germany’s second-largest stock exchange.

The SGKB is the fifth-largest cantonal bank in the European country. The entity indicated in a statement that it will offer this service to a group of select clients.

For its part, the strategic partner, SEBA Bank, is a “digital asset specialist regulated by the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA), for the new offer of cryptocurrency services.”

Although the announcement indicates that they will market and provide custody services for the two main digital currencies, bitcoin and ether, both companies hope to expand the offer with more cryptocurrencies, depending on the demand of their client portfolio.

In this regard, Falk Kohlmann, director of market services at SGKB, indicated: “Thanks to our cooperation with SEBA Bank, we have implemented a simple initial configuration, which allows us to learn and grow according to the needs of our clients.”

The growing customer demand in the Swiss banking sector has allowed this project to crystallize, to satisfy both institutional and retail users.

Other cantonal banks in Switzerland already offer cryptocurrency services. The Luzerner Kantonalbank, Lucerne’s dominant cantonal entity, launched its crypto service in August. Likewise, at the end of last October, “Sygnum, a regulated business-to-business cryptocurrency specialist, partnered with Zuger Kantonalbank for a similar mobile-based offering.”

Without a doubt, the cryptocurrency market in Switzerland is experiencing a positive opening that is likely to be maintained over time.

The original order underwent significant changes the day before the hearing, marking a milestone in the company’s bankruptcy process.

According to the resolution, FTX is authorized to carry out the sale of its digital assets, except Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH) and “certain tokens linked to insiders”, in weekly batches through an advisor of investments, following strict pre-established guidelines.

Initial limits for the first week will be $50 million, increasing to $100 million in subsequent weeks. If these limits are sought to be exceeded, written approval of both the creditors committee and the Ad Hoc Committee will be required, or court approval to reach a weekly limit of $200 million.

On the other hand, the sale of Bitcoin, Ether and tokens linked to insiders will require a separate decision from FTX, with ten days’ notice of its intention required to both the relevant committees and the US trustee, appointed by the Department of Justice.

This court decision marks an important step in FTX’s restructuring process, and its impact on the cryptocurrency world will be closely followed by the global financial community.

This movement is considered by experts as a key point for the entry of this service by the payment processor into the European market.

PayPal launched its digital currency product for customers in the United States two years ago and hasn’t stopped since. Last year, the company expanded the service to the UK and more recently, in 2022, added features to allow users to withdraw their funds to external wallets.

According to an official statement from the company, this service is already available to a certain number of clients in Luxembourg, who will be able to carry out transactions with bitcoin, ether, litecoin, bitcoin cash, among others.

“Adding Luxembourg is an important step in PayPal’s mission to make digital currencies more accessible,” the company said in the statement.

Once approved by the regulatory authorities, it will become in the first Israeli bank to offer cryptocurrency trading services to its clients.

According to the information outlined, users will initially be able to acquire, maintain and sell cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH) by making transactions starting at $15.49, which is equivalent to 50 shekels, and they estimate that in the future they will be able to trade other cryptocurrencies.

To offer this type of service, the regulatory authorities must approve the initiative, for which there is not yet a scheduled date, but according to the statement, the bank’s platform “will collect taxes in accordance with the guidelines of the Israel Tax Authority for that customers do not have to deal with the complexities of taxes.”

Clear and necessary legislation

Anat Guetta, head of the Israel Authority, recently expressed that the country needs clear legislation that would allow the country to attract investors to develop its crypto market.

It is important to note that the country is working on legislation that guarantees that cryptocurrencies are not used for illicit purposes. In this connection, in early March, the Israeli Defense Minister seized “30 cryptocurrency accounts related to terrorist groups.”

The Israeli authorities are quite strict with the management of the crypto market, to the point that Binance had to stop its operations in the country after the regulatory authorities made such a request.

According to the information issued by the Bulgarian Stock Exchange, citizens will be able to invest in cryptocurrencies through the country’s stock market, hence investors interested in innovative and suitable crypto products will be able to trade freely with the eight cryptocurrency ETNs.

Moravenoy pointed out that “with the new products, the market responds to the growing interest in crypto instruments and is proud to be able to offer today an alternative asset for trading cryptocurrencies, facilitating and simplifying the process for all interested investors.”

Cryptocurrency-based NCDs

The market-negotiable note or ETN is a financial asset that replicates the value of a share, commodity or any other measure in an agreed period of time that will allow capitalists to invest money in cryptocurrencies without the need to “create and own crypto wallets and crypto keys, and at the same time, they will have access to crypto instruments that comply with current regulations.”

The trading of ETNs based on crypto assets will allow the Bulgarian Stock Exchange to establish an alliance with Deutsche Börse and the market maker Tradegate AG, guaranteeing liquidity to crypto instruments.

The ETN offer comes after Asen Vasilev, Bulgarian Finance Minister, stated that the country is looking for options to provide cryptocurrency payments and it is possible that a cryptocurrency payment mechanism will be introduced “in the short or medium term”.
