Artificial intelligence has made projections regarding which is the most intelligent European country, placing Finland in first place. The country is followed by Estonia, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Germany, the United Kingdom and France.

Intelligence is a complex concept, which depends on multiple factors such as genetics, education, nutrition, and sociocultural environment. By adding factors such as innovation and technological development, it is possible to identify the level of intelligence of a population.

According to Google AI, Finland could be at the top of the most intelligent countries, taking into account the high IQ of its inhabitants and its excellent educational system.

Of course, each country has its own strengths, development capabilities and talents for innovation.

The President of Estonia, Alar Karis, has called for new parliamentary elections on Tuesday, March 5, 2023, in which the Reform Party of the Prime Minister, Kaja Kallas, has the advantage to remain in power.

“These elections and the coalition that results from them will decide Estonia’s path for the next four years and beyond,” Karis said, in a statement in which he advocated leaving “accusations and insults” out of the political debate and has appealed to citizen participation.

The president has vindicated Estonia’s membership of the EU and NATO, noting that now allies are needed more than ever, “with Russia waging a war in Ukraine”. This conflict is expected to be a key issue in the campaign, as Estonia shares almost 300 kilometers of border with Russia.

Karis has also taken the opportunity to warn that these elections cannot be a “duel” between two parties, and has warned that this “reductionist” vision limits the options and distorts the process as a whole. “I urge the population not to separate the parties between large parties on which everything depends and small parties on which nothing or almost nothing depends,” he added.

Polls currently rank the Estonian Conservative People’s Party (EKRE) in second position, followed by the Estonian Center Party. In total, some 900,000 people are called to vote in the first European country to introduce digital voting, in 2005.

The Estonian financial control authorities reported on Wednesday the freezing of Russian assets worth 20.1 million euros, more than 90 percent of which belong to two well-known oligarchs, Andrei Melnichenko and Viatcheslav Kantor.

“Frozen funds in credit institutions, financial institutions, bank accounts are about 11.7 million euros,” said one of the heads of the Estonian Financial Intelligence Agency, Laura Aus, who has estimated the funds for taxes and customs frozen on 8.4 million euros.

Melnichenko owns the Eurochem fertilizer company, which operates mainly in the city of Sillamae, near the Russian border, while Kantor owns the DBT company, details the Estonian chain ERR.

Estonian authorities have also reported that high-end electronic equipment has been seized at the border, as well as other luxury goods, such as yachts. The objective, they explain, is to prevent the transfer of goods to Russia that could be used in the military industry, as the sanctions make this type of technology scarce on the other side of the border.

At the moment, no consensus has been reached on how all these frozen funds should be allocated, although there is a part of the international community that defends investing to compensate Ukraine for war damage, valued at 350,000 million euros, according to a recent estimate by the World Bank, the European Commission and the Government of Ukraine.
