The Venezuelan Ministry of Health reported last week that the country is maintaining epidemiological surveillance at ports and airports after the World Health Organization declared the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.

The WHO issued the alert “due to the spread of the Bundibugyo variant, a strain of the virus that is currently being monitored by global health authorities.”

In this regard, Venezuelan health authorities have issued relevant recommendations for citizens planning international travel in the near future.

The Ministry of Health details “basic biosecurity measures, such as frequent handwashing and the recommendation to avoid direct contact with people exhibiting health conditions. Likewise, the ministry urged travelers to immediately go to authorized medical centers if they experience symptoms associated with fever or general malaise.”
