Data and analytics firm GlobalData estimates in this field that Germany will reach “509.9 GW in 2035, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9.7% between 2024 and 2035.”

According to the company, last year renewable energy accounted for “54.7 % of Germany’s electricity generation, led by wind and solar PV. By 2035, renewable generation is expected to reach 628 TWh, representing 82.9% of the energy mix, driven by the large-scale expansion of solar PV and the development of onshore and offshore wind farms.”

The goal for 2030, according to Mohammed Ziauddin, energy analyst at GlobalData, is to reach 80 % renewable generation, supported by its Renewable Energy Act (EEG), the National Hydrogen Strategy, and significant investment in modernizing the electricity grid.

But the European country still faces challenges, “such as grid congestion, the Dunkelflaute (periods of low renewable production), and the slow deployment of dispatchable gas-fired generation capacity to support intermittent renewables.”

Added to this are rising energy prices, uncertainty regarding regulatory frameworks, and lengthy permitting processes for wind projects that also limit deployment.

Users in the area can travel to their workplace, study or wherever they wish in buses that do not emit any noise and without CO2 emissions. Shenzhen is an example for other cities in the country that want to implement clean transportation before 2025.

In this sense, it is worth mentioning that the city, “bordering Hong Kong and home to numerous technology companies, has also electrified the majority of its taxis.”

Electric buses contribute less to global warming than cars and trucks. “The International Energy Agency (IEA) estimates the potential reduction in emissions due to buses at 5 %, in a carbon-neutral scenario in 2050.” Added to this is that by not emitting noise, they improve the quality of life of the inhabitants.

China currently represents more than 90 % of electric buses and trucks in the global market, according to data for 2021 from the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT).

Drivers of the city’s electric grid buses indicate that they are comfortable, easy to drive, clean and safe. Likewise, they highlight that they have the same performance as diesel ones.

The initiative was possible thanks to a strong investment in this market, particularly in the car manufacturing company BYD, a world leader in this segment, based in Shenzhen.

Those responsible for this initiative are the Secretary for Industry and Productive Development, José Ignacio de Mendiguren, and the Secretary for Strategic Affairs of the Presidency, Mercedes Marcó del Pont.

This is a new step for the South American country to delve into the development of new sustainable technologies applied in the national automotive industry, with the support of the Departments of Strategic Affairs, Energy and Transportation.

The bill establishes “improvements in the current regulation, under five axes: benefits for the production and export of electric vehicles, incentives for the production of electrical parts and special equipment, benefits for the production of electric personal mobility vehicles, incentives for the professional training and progress in retrofit regulation (conversion of internal combustion vehicles to electric)”, according to a statement from Industry and Productive Development.

The Secretary for Strategic Affairs of the Presidency, Mercedes Marcó del Pont, stressed that the new project seeks to strengthen a regulatory framework for national production, as well as support for local suppliers in the auto parts and equipment sectors.

This is the second and last operation of a policy reform support program in the Andean country. The first $50 million operation was approved by the IDB in June 2021.

Among the actions to be implemented in this second operation are critical pricing processes to reflect the modernization of distribution regulation and guarantee an affordable electricity service, as well as accelerating the participation of the population in the use of clean and sustainable energies that displace fossil and polluting energies.

Likewise, it will support the decarbonization of the energy matrix and, among other measures, the formulation of energy scenarios and projections consistent with carbon neutrality in 2050, in order to update the Long-Term Energy Planning, the acceleration of the coal-fired plants, the elaboration of the first just transition strategy, and the regulation to facilitate intermittent renewable connections and electricity storage.

In addition, the program will advance in closing the gender gap by promoting equal pay, the inclusion of more women in the energy sector, and gender parity in civil society institutions associated with the energy sector.

On the other hand, it is expected to promote technological innovation with the approval this year of the National Electromobility Strategy, new regulations to define the rules for the implementation of electric vehicles in line with the Energy Efficiency Law; the launch of the vehicle replacement program of high distance, as well as the implementation of the regulation in green hydrogen and support to promote the first green hydrogen projects in the country.

The loan has a repayment term of 16 years, a grace period of 5½ years, and an interest rate based on SOFR.

The Uribe photovoltaic solar plant will have 58 megawatts (MW) and will be located in the Antofagasta region, Chile. The solution will connect with a data management platform in the cloud and all the information services for the control, operation and optimal maintenance of the batteries in real time.

The project consists of a fully integrated 5 MWh lithium-ion energy storage system, to be supplied by Saft, a subsidiary of TotalEnergies, and two Intensium Max High Energy containers. It will also have an energy conversion system and medium voltage transformers.

The company reported that the plant will benefit from a storage system with an “enhanced and comprehensive security architecture that incorporates a unique combination of security devices to mitigate the risks of fire and explosion, fully tested and certified according to international security standards.”

X-Elio’s enters the energy transition

Storage enables greater penetration of renewable energies and provides advanced services to the grid. This project will become the starting point for X-Elio to significantly expand the company’s capacity in the coming years, as it plans to deploy a “project portfolio exceeding 1 GWh by the end of the year.”

The commercial director of X-ELIO, Mirko Molinari, said that the company is very excited to join the experience in the development of solar energy with its new storage capabilities. “We are improving day by day and providing real solutions at the pace necessary for the energy transition to take place.”

The company is convinced that its business model is scalable, generates value for shareholders and is based on extremely high sustainability criteria. In Molinari’s opinion, energy storage is a fundamental technology to allow the decarbonization of our energy system, with many value flows still untapped.
