The world’s leading company in the renewable energy industry X-Elio announced its entry into the market for battery energy storage systems with the installation, by the second quarter of 2023, of its first Uribe photovoltaic plant.

The Uribe photovoltaic solar plant will have 58 megawatts (MW) and will be located in the Antofagasta region, Chile. The solution will connect with a data management platform in the cloud and all the information services for the control, operation and optimal maintenance of the batteries in real time.

The project consists of a fully integrated 5 MWh lithium-ion energy storage system, to be supplied by Saft, a subsidiary of TotalEnergies, and two Intensium Max High Energy containers. It will also have an energy conversion system and medium voltage transformers.

The company reported that the plant will benefit from a storage system with an “enhanced and comprehensive security architecture that incorporates a unique combination of security devices to mitigate the risks of fire and explosion, fully tested and certified according to international security standards.”

X-Elio’s enters the energy transition

Storage enables greater penetration of renewable energies and provides advanced services to the grid. This project will become the starting point for X-Elio to significantly expand the company’s capacity in the coming years, as it plans to deploy a “project portfolio exceeding 1 GWh by the end of the year.”

The commercial director of X-ELIO, Mirko Molinari, said that the company is very excited to join the experience in the development of solar energy with its new storage capabilities. “We are improving day by day and providing real solutions at the pace necessary for the energy transition to take place.”

The company is convinced that its business model is scalable, generates value for shareholders and is based on extremely high sustainability criteria. In Molinari’s opinion, energy storage is a fundamental technology to allow the decarbonization of our energy system, with many value flows still untapped.
