The security changes that Microsoft will apply to Outlook starting September 16 seek to implement the Secure Future Initiative, which eliminates access to the server with only the username and password.

According to the software maker, “the light version of the Outlook web application will be removed on August 19 and will no longer support Gmail accounts on Outlook.com on June 30.”

According to David Los, partner group product manager for Outlook, Microsoft will stop supporting Basic Auth, a method by which a user “provides only their username and password to log in to their account.” Consequently, customers with Outlook.com, Hotmail, and Live.com accounts will need to migrate access through “apps that use modern authentication starting September 16.”

The change is based on the implementation of additional backend processes/tokens that are practically imperceptible to users but represent an important new layer of security.

The changes will also be applied to Windows Mail and Calendar users who will be migrated to their new “Outlook for Windows” application, before the end of support for the integrated Windows Mail and Calendar applications later this year.

They have clarified, however, that the new Outlook application for Windows and Mac will continue to be compatible with Gmail accounts.

According to the company, after 2024 customers will need to install or at least have updated versions of a compatible browser to run Outlook.com. In this sense, they indicated that the minimum browser requirements for Outlook.com are Microsoft Edge or Chrome version 79 or later; Firefox version 78 or later; Safari version 16 or later and Opera version 76 or later. As an additional but no less important fact, Microsoft added that it will only support Windows 10 or later and Windows Server 2016 or later to access Outlook.com.

However, Twitch has announced that it will stop supporting its app on the Nintendo Switch console starting Monday, November 6 for new users, who will no longer be able to download the app on the Nintendo eShop.

This was detailed by the company in a notification on its help page, in which it also specified that, as for users who already had the ‘app’ downloaded to their console, “they will lose access to the application” January 31 of next year 2024.

In this sense, according to statements by Twitch’s corporate communications director, Gabriella Raila, to The Verge, the company has made the decision to remove the application on Nintendo Switch “recently.” In addition, she also stressed that Nintendo “remains a valued partner” and that they appreciate “all the support that the Switch community has given to Twitch and streamers.”

During the years that the application has been in use, users have posted some complaints about the app’s service through a Twitch forum, detailing that they cannot see the chat in a broadcast, or which does not allow subscription to creators from the console. Likewise, users cannot use the app to stream their own gameplay either.
