The Pope addresses key issues such as human dignity in the digital age, the use of algorithms, labor justice, and employment.

The encyclical Magnifica Humanitas will be presented by Leo XIV at an event in the Vatican on the scheduled date. “The speakers at the presentation will be Cardinals Víctor Manuel Fernández, Prefect of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, and Michael Czerny, Prefect of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development.”

The event will also feature the participation of “Christopher Olah, co-founder of Anthropic (USA) and director of research on the interpretability of artificial intelligence, as well as Professors Anna Rowlands, theologian and professor at Durham University in the United Kingdom, and Leocadie Lushombo, professor of Political Theology and Catholic Social Thought at the Jesuit School of Theology at Santa Clara University in California.”

The closing remarks will be delivered by Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin, followed by an address from Pope Leo XIV.

Since his election, the Pope has made clear his interest in the Church’s position regarding the new “industrial revolution and the advances in artificial intelligence, which pose new challenges for the defense of human dignity, justice, and work.” At that time, he emphasized that the economy is dominated by algorithms, platforms, and automation, questioning the possibility that many jobs will disappear due to AI.

Last Sunday, the Pope urged everyone to “commit to promoting forms of communication that always respect the truth of the human person” in the face of artificial intelligence, in an appeal at the end of the Regina Coeli prayer from the Apostolic Palace.

The private sector warns of increased concern about the pace of economic growth and that the immediate consequences will be reflected in the evolution of formal employment and business investment, which is the main driver of growth.

The CEESP (Center for Economic Studies of the Private Sector) expresses fears of a decline in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the fourth quarter of 2025 and for the January-March period of 2026. Meanwhile, the Bank of Mexico, in its November Survey of Private Sector Economic Specialists’ Expectations, also expressed concern about the pace of economic growth in the coming years.

According to the CEESP report, the economy will grow by 0.39 % for the remainder of 2025, and in 2026 it could reach a range of 0.5 % to 1.5 %. This may not be enough to meet the employment and welfare needs of households.

Regarding 2027, they point out that “while the pace of economic growth is expected to continue improving, it is projected to reach only 1.81 %.”

Capozzolo said in an interview with the program Dos más Dos on Unión Radio that they hope their proposal will be considered by government authorities. He also emphasized that, regarding communication with the Executive branch, “there must be fluid relations to address difficult issues” and make progress on matters such as energy, public services, electricity, financing, inflation, and taxes paid by the private sector.

According to Capozzolo, it is essential to review the conditions of tax and parafiscal obligations in the country, considering that businesses want access to “digital assets, to create more jobs, generate exportable goods, penetrate new markets, and this would require building agreements, and this must be done directly with the national government.”

In this way, according to the executive, companies commit to generating 70 % of jobs and 50 % of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in non-oil goods.

Nations remember labor demands, marches and declarations are organized, in a scenario marked by high unemployment rates, increase in informal work, use of AI to replace humans and pension reforms.

In January of this year, the International Labor Organization published its World Employment Report and Social Outlook: Trends for 2024. There it indicated that some 435 million workers would be looking for work in 2024.

In that document, the organization also showed that despite a reduction in the unemployment rate after the Covid-19 pandemic, “wages have decreased in most G20 countries, since positive results have not been possible” keep pace with inflation. According to the United Nations agency, the outlook is worrying and is unlikely to improve in the short term.

At a global level, the working force demands better salaries that allow them to cover their basic needs and escape precariousness. On the other hand, they request the creation of more jobs, taking into account that the world rate in this area could reach 5.2 % this year, according to the ILO report.

Low wages are widening the gap between the economic and social systems, marked by a worsening of citizens’ living standards.

The increase in the prices of goods and services and taxes, in addition to the conflicts generated by the restructuring of pension systems, keep workers on alert, who always end up at the least favored end of the production chain.

According to the ILO, one of the greatest challenges in the labor aspect is the equitable and fair transition towards a sustainable future, for which a greater effort by governments to improve the quality of life of the population through multilateral development funds is recommended. support for the most fragile economies, the creation of quality jobs, promotion of social inclusion, among others.

The use of new technologies, particularly Artificial Intelligence, is not foreign to labor discussions. Currently, AI is seen more as a threat to the stability of workers than as a help, given that thousands of people are being replaced by humanoid robots or digital systems that automate production chains in minutes. In this sense, the working masses focus on the ethical use of AI, the protection of jobs through a reorientation of the use of this technology and the timely discussion of a method of inserting humanoid robots that does not harm the race. human.

Before the members of the organization, Valecillos read the proposal that encompasses seven aspects to be addressed by the national government to boost the economy.

The document, which was also sent to the Vice Presidency of the Republic, the Ministry of Commerce and the Seniat, establishes:

Transition to a market economy: To this end, Consecomercio proposes that the prices of goods and services be exempt from regulations and be defined by the law of supply and demand.

Reduce inflation: By reducing the fiscal deficit, inflation can be lowered. This would require a reduction in public spending by the State and a rational increase in tax collection.

Labor reform to recover the purchasing power of workers: In this regard, it is urgent to adapt the current Labor Law (Lottt) to current times. The generation of a “real and appropriate” income for workers must be prioritized, with an increase in national productivity. Likewise, mechanisms that generate jobs in the private sector are necessary.

Change in fiscal policy: It must be based on the “expansion of the tax base and the elimination of unnecessary taxes: which allows expanding the national tax base and bringing formality to all economic activities in the country.” The organization proposes to review the legal framework of the tax sector; considering that the people “who should not contribute to the State are the people who live exclusively on pensions and retirements.”

Reactivation of bank credit: Especially aimed at consumption, according to the agency, to help Venezuelans recover purchasing power, which has been reduced by low salaries.

Adjust the size of the State to that of the economy: The size of the state does not match the size of the economy, which currently maintains unsustainable expenses. “This State must be adapted to what can be paid for with the real income of the treasury and the companies under the control of the State must be returned to the private sector, so that they go from being a burden to being a source of taxes,” the document states.

Restore the autonomy of the Central Bank: The entity must recover its essence and its powers, free of political-partisan influences. The Central Bank of Venezuela must once again be an autonomous and independent entity, with a monetary policy aimed at economic stability without inflation; to provide benefits to workers, employers and the Government.

The report, commissioned by Walt Disney World and prepared by the consulting firm Oxford Economics, highlights that this entertainment giant has left $3.1 billion in local and state coffers during fiscal year 2022.

With four theme parks, two water parks and more than 25 hotels, Disney established itself as an essential economic catalyst for Florida. Adam Sacks, president of Tourism Economics, a division of Oxford Economics, emphasized that Disney’s economic influence extends both directly and indirectly through its supply chain and employee spending.

The report reveals that Disney’s presence in Florida has resulted in more than a quarter of a million jobs, making the company a relevant player in the state’s labor market. One in 32 jobs is attributed to Disney, and in central Florida, home to the popular theme parks, one in 8 direct jobs is linked to Walt Disney World.

The impact goes further, given that for every job created within Disney facilities, an average of 1.7 jobs are generated throughout the state, collaborating with around 2,500 businesses in Florida.

According to the provisions of the cabinet of Social Democrats, Greens and Liberals led by Olaf Scholz, these people will generally be able to obtain a work permit. In addition, the work ban for refugees living in initial reception centers for single people will be lifted after six months. Previously, the work ban applied for nine months.

Scholz’s coalition also wants to change the regulation of the deadline for the so-called work tolerance. Until now, only those who arrived in Germany before August 1, 2018 can benefit from it. In future, everyone who entered Germany before the end of 2022 will be able to use this possibility and thus have a perspective of staying in the country in the long term.

People who have submitted “manifestly unfounded” asylum applications from so-called safe countries of origin or who have refused to clarify their identity will not be able to benefit from the facilities that have been introduced.

Those tolerated are people forced to leave the country but who cannot be deported for certain reasons. According to the Central Registry of Foreigners, around 304,000 people were required to leave the country at the end of 2022, of which around 248,000 had a tolerance permit.

“Businessmen are desperately looking for workers, municipalities need relief and people who work contribute, they become taxpayers,” explained Andreas Audretsch, deputy leader of the Greens parliamentary group.

A proposal to toughen criminal provisions against human smugglers was also approved. Smugglers who recklessly endanger people’s lives will be punished with life imprisonment or imprisonment of 10 to 15 years. Until now, sentences range from three to 15 years.
