Gmail, Google’s email service, announced the inclusion of emojis in the tool, so users can add emotion to messages arriving in their inbox.

Regarding the new feature, which will be available for apps, iOS and Android systems, and web clients starting May 13, Google stated: “We’ll be able to use these emojis when replying to the sender, also to confirm receipt of the email, or simply to express yourself.”

This way, Gmail users will be able to show their gratitude to the sender, send a greeting, or indicate acceptance of an invitation using an emoji as an “expressive and personalized way to respond to emails.”

To add emoji reactions to emails, simply click the “Add emoji reactions” button located at the top of the message, next to the “Reply” button. Additionally, “you can see more emojis by tapping the + button, and all these reactions will appear at the end of the email.”

However, the technology company has clarified that “the feature will be disabled by default in Gmail, and they clarify that these emoji reactions cannot be sent to emails received through a Google Group or to those that have a Google Group in the recipient list.”

In addition to being available for iOS, Android, and web clients, it will also be available for Google Workspace customers, as well as users with personal Google accounts.

Reactions offer a way to quickly express what you feel about a certain message, using one of the proposed emoji. This form of quick response has also been extended to Gmail emails.

The reactions are available for each of the emails that the user receives, as Google has explained on the Support page where this news is detailed. They appear as another quick reply option, with an emoji icon, at the end of the message.

This icon, when clicked, displays a series of emojis to express a reaction, but it is possible to access a larger selection. When you choose one that reflects the feeling that the message raises, this emoji will appear at the bottom of the message, above the quick response options.

Not only the user’s reaction will be shown, but also the reactions of other people, as the company clarifies. You can know who has reacted by simply pressing the emoji and holding it down.

Reactions, however, are not available for school or professional accounts. Nor if the message has been sent to a limited group mailing list or to more than 20 recipients, or if the user has sent “more than 20 reactions to the same message.”

Reactions to Gmail emails have begun to be implemented in the Android application, and will soon also reach the web version and iOS, as reported in The Verge.

From now on, users will be able to configure their interface with static colors and gradient themes, as well as group profile photos for different chats with friends or coworkers.

Meta has also noted that it has rebuilt link previews for end-to-end encrypted chats, so users can know what content it directs them to before clicking on it.

This package of news also includes the display of the status as active, to indicate to your contacts that you are available to receive calls. However, the company has indicated that it is an indicative, so it can be deactivated to maintain privacy.

Bubbles has also been introduced in its version for Android. Bubbles are circles with the image of contacts that allow you to read and reply to messages while using other applications. Once this option is enabled and a message is received, this notification format will appear.

WhatsApp is developing reactions to messages with emojis, it is a new beta update, secured by end-to-end encryption, for Android and iOS. This was reported by the WaBetaInfo portal through its Twitter account.

The media also pointed out that the emojis that will be part of the reactions of the instant messaging application are: “the thumbs up, the red heart, the smiling face, the surprised face, the sad face and the joined hands”.

The reaction with emojis was recently implemented by Telegram in its version 8.4, highlighting its innovation and creativity. However, the leadership of instant messaging is held by WhatsApp, although the platform, owned by Meta, has had no problem replicating those functions previously released by the blue platform.

In the published images you can see that the emojis are in the lower right part of the chat, it is also assumed that the operation will be similar to that of Instagram, which appears when pressing the received message. Nevertheless, there is still no date for when this update could come into operation in WhatsApp.

The new Windows 11 emojis are now available for Microsoft 365 applications, which can be downloaded through an optional update. Among the characters is the Clippy wizard, drawn from older versions of Office.

The renewed emojis present a different image with respect to previous updates, although Microsoft has continued to bet on 2D for its animated images, instead of offering a three-dimensional format.

“These new Fluent-style emoji launching today in Windows 11 are personal and familiar, two of our Windows 11 design principles. A team of emoji designers, program managers, font experts, and developers has focused on the creation of this new emoji system,” reads a statement published by the company.

Among the more than 1,800 new emojis coming to Windows is Clippy, the Office assistant retired in 2001, which will return to its Microsoft programs, but only in the form of emoji to replace the traditional clip, as previously announced.

According to the company, “from the color palettes to the modular features [of the emoji], the designers created a system that accommodated the broad set of Unicode emoji.” In this way, it aims to “add fun, expression and personality” to user communications.

The new emoji are starting to roll out as part of the optional preview version of Windows 11 on November 2021. To access them, you need to open Windows Update settings, check for updates, select and download them.
