Daniel Palacios, Ministry of the Interior of Colombia, signed the decree establishing the closure of all air, river and land borders in the country from Saturday 28 at 6:00 p.m. until Monday, May 30 at 6:00 p.m., due to the development of the presidential elections.

According to what is indicated in the decree: “The measure must include migratory controls at border land and river posts. Transits that must be carried out due to unforeseeable circumstances or force majeure are exempted from the restriction.”

On the other hand, the decree refers to the dry law established in the Electoral Code of Colombia, which will be applied throughout the national territory of the New Granada country and will come into force from Saturday, May 28 at 4:00 p.m. until Monday, May 30 at 12:00 noon.

Colombians residing in Venezuela vote at border posts

Venezuela and Colombia have not maintained diplomatic relations since February 23, 2019, for which all Colombians who live in Venezuela and wish to vote must go to the border posts.

The National Registry of Civil Status of Colombia notified that “184,421 Colombians residing in Venezuela are registered in the electoral census”, who will be able to vote at the border posts of the departments of Norte de Santander, Arauca, La Guajira and Guainía.

The process for the election of the new president of Colombia began on the border between Colombia and Venezuela on May 24, while in the country they will be held next Sunday, May 29.
