Amazon will join the Dow Jones Industrial Index, which brings together 30 of the largest companies in the United States. In this change, Amazon will replace the titles of the Walgreens Boots Alliance pharmacy chain, which had joined Wall Street’s most popular select in 2018.

The decision to include Amazon in the Dow Jones index is due to the ‘split’ made by the retail giant Walmart, which divided the value of its shares by three, thus reducing its weight in the selective.

The index’s manager, S&P Dow Jones Indices, explained that this addition reflects the changing nature of the U.S. economy. In addition, being a price-weighted index, stocks with higher prices have a greater weight in the selectivity.

On the other hand, Uber Technologies will also replace JetBlue Airways on the Dow Jones Transportation Index, the oldest stock exchange index still in use. The aim is to increase exposure to the travel-sharing industry, given the low price of JetBlue shares in the index.

Amazon’s inclusion in the Dow Jones coincides with the recent sale of 50 million shares of the e-commerce giant by its founder, Jeff Bezos, in exchange for $8.523 million. This transaction took place between February 15 and 20, according to the records of the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Codere, for its part, has been the most bullish company in the entire Spanish market, registering a rise of 15.71 % due to its merger with a SPAC, followed by Clínica Baviera, with 13.68 %, while Día y Renta Corporation have closed the session with losses of 4.29 % and 3.85 %, respectively.

A barrel of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) oil, the benchmark for the United States, was trading at $ 66.33 at 5.30 p.m., while Brent crude, the benchmark for Europe, marked a price of $ 69.14, with a 0.16 % increase.

Finally, the price of the euro against the dollar stood at 1.1703 ‘greenbacks’, while the Spanish risk premium was around 69 basis points, with the interest on the ten-year bond at 0.216 %.

Before the first hour of trading on Wall Street, the selective reached 35,034.23 points, 0.7 % above the level of Friday’s close.

So far this year, the Wall Street selective accumulates a revaluation of more than 14 % thanks to the impulse of the billionaire stimulus programs approved and the progress in vaccination campaigns, which feed the expectation of a total reopening of the economy that allows the rebound of activity in the second semester.

The Dow Jones index, which crossed the 30,000 point barrier for the first time on November 24, pulverized all the milestones in its climb, surpassing 31,000 points at the beginning of January and 32,000 at the end of February, while that in mid-March it reached 33,000 points and on April 15 it reached 34,000 for the first time.

Since Joe Biden took office as president of the United States on January 20, the Dow Jones of Industrialists grew by almost 4,000 points, compared to the increase of 10,000 integers throughout the term of Donald Trump, who found the selective at 20,000 points on January 25, 2017, a few days after officially taking over the US presidency.
