Citizens face daily power outages both at home and at work. Companies are forced to pay salaries despite being inactive due to the lack of electricity, particularly in cases where self-generation using their own power plants is not possible.

Small and medium-sized businesses, as well as large corporations, shopping centers, and government ministries, have complied with the reduced workday to meet the energy-saving measures decreed by the government. However, the situation worsens if a power outage occurs for several hours, as workers must return home, where they likely also lack electricity.

The general consequences include lost productive hours, failure of point-of-sale systems and other payment systems in businesses, disruption of banking activity and the subway system, impact on medical care, and food spoilage due to the disruption of the refrigeration chain in both businesses and homes. The impact on the oil industry, a crucial sector for Venezuela’s economic recovery and one that requires a stable electrical system, cannot be overlooked.
