The country’s progress in the digital economy has led to the training of professionals, enabling the ICT sector to contribute approximately $58 trillion to the national GDP, equivalent to 3.5 % of added value, and generate around 370,000 jobs.

It is a fact that the application of this technology has an impact on people’s daily lives. The result is “more connected homes, more students with access to technology, and more professionals trained in strategic areas such as AI, data analytics, and cybersecurity.”

According to recent data, between 2022 and 2025, internet access in homes grew by 3.6 %, from 59.5 % to 73.9 %, especially in rural areas, “where connectivity exceeded 50 % for the first time, reducing historical gaps.”

(Reference image source: Albert Stoynov on Unsplash)

Connectivity also increased in the government sector, where the country surpassed its goal of training one million people in digital skills. In this regard, the metrics reflect that today 1,020,181 Colombians have the technological skills to find employment or start their own businesses. Additionally, 156,546 computers have been distributed, and more than 19,500 rural schools are connected throughout the country.

The South American nation “ranks fourth in the Latin American AI Index and has opened Latin America’s first Faculty of Artificial Intelligence, with new campuses under development.”

In parallel with developments in the aforementioned areas, $64.5 billion has been invested in digital security, enabling the management of 82,000 vulnerabilities and the closure of 37,000 critical gaps.

Thanks to the voters’ support, state entities must now guarantee “the availability of cash in the country, and it is ruled out that it could ever be replaced by virtual money.
Meanwhile, due to the rise of digital payment platforms and applications, Switzerland, like the rest of Europe, will continue to consider “the possibility of launching a virtual Swiss franc in the future, a cryptocurrency issued by the Swiss National Bank, which, following today’s vote, will have to coexist, if it comes to fruition, with physical coins and banknotes.”

Particularly in e-commerce, security is a priority.

The arrival of simpler payment methods, based on AI and other emerging technologies, does not stop the emergence of new forms of fraud. Cybercriminals adapt, improve their attack tools and break down all barriers.

The financial sector is the preferred sector for digital fraudsters. Losses far exceed those obtained by criminals from drug trafficking and other illegal activities globally.

Scam methods are becoming more aggressive thanks to the use by cybercriminals of generative AI that allows them to impersonate identities in a way that is imperceptible to victims.

Deepfakes are used to carry out fraudulent transactions that bypass system barriers. But this method is not enough, and instant payments are added by impersonating trusted contacts. These so-called “friendly” scams are the most dangerous.

Cybersecurity experts advise staying alert to any unusual details in an email, a phone call or operations in stores where payment can be made by contactless, fingerprint payment, among others. Also, activate two-factor authentication on all devices, which is highly effective against digital fraud.

This price marks a significant milestone for Bitcoin, which had not reached this level for more than two years.

According to data provided by CoinMarketCap, the digital asset also posted strong performance over the broader time frames. On the weekly chart, the cryptocurrency rose more than 13.5 %, while on the monthly chart, it has experienced an impressive increase of 38 %.

This rise in the price of Bitcoin came right after the announcement that MicroStrategy, the company led by Michael Saylor, acquired an additional 3,000 BTC for a total of 155 million.

These purchases were made at an average price of 51,813 between 15 and 25 February. With a total of 193,000 BTC acquired over time, MicroStrategy has become the largest Bitcoin holder among publicly listed companies.

Founder of ARK36 digital asset investment fund, Mikkel Morch, attributes this rally to strong institutional backing.

“This rally is not just numbers on a chart; it’s a statement of confidence among institutional investors in the transformative potential of cryptocurrencies… In addition, the green light for Bitcoin ETFs has injected a new wave of optimism, boosting trading volumes and putting the spotlight on cryptocurrency-linked companies amidst a wider market full of apprehension.”

The total capitalization of the cryptocurrency market has also experienced an increase of 2.85 % in the last 24 hours, reaching USD 2.19 trillion. On February 27, the industry managed to recapture the market capitalization of USD 2 trillion, driven by a combination of inflows of ETFs from Bitcoin and an improvement in investor sentiment toward cryptocurrencies.

Visa has partnered with Transak, the Web3 infrastructure provider, to launch cryptocurrency withdrawals and payments through the Visa Direct solution, the companies announced on January 30.

The integration, which is now available, allows you to exchange crypto for fiat and pay at 130 million Visa-accepting merchants, directly from a wallet like MetaMask to a Visa debit card.

“By enabling real-time card withdrawals with Visa Direct, Transak provides a faster, simpler and more connected experience for its users, making it easier to convert crypto balances to fiat,” said Yanilsa Gonzalez-Ore, leader of Visa Direct in North America.

The partnership significantly increases the number of options for converting cryptocurrencies into fiat currencies and represents a major breakthrough in the connection between the world of cryptocurrencies and traditional finance, said Harshit Gangwar, Head of Marketing and Investor Relations at Transak.

The partnership enables users in 145 countries to directly convert at least 40 cryptocurrencies to fiat without relying on centralized exchanges. Some of the eligible countries are jurisdictions such as Cyprus, Malta, Singapore, Turkey, Portugal and the United Arab Emirates, according to Transak’s global coverage page.

“This is a big step towards the massive acceptance and use of cryptocurrencies,” Gangwar said, highlighting a more accessible and convenient nature of transactions enabled by integration.

The notice was made on the website of the U.S. Department of Justice, where authorities indicate that they will put on sale two lots of confiscated bitcoins on that occasion: The first of them has about 2,800 bitcoins valued at almost 129 million dollars, and the other smaller one has about 58 BTC worth about 3 million.

These BTC lots were owned by Ryan Farace, one of the people arrested and prosecuted in 2018 as part of the Silk Road investigation, who was charged with conspiring and laundering Bitcoin funds used for drug trafficking.

Investigations revealed that Farace and his father carried out activities to launder more than 2,874 BTC, which they tried to send to an unknown person for the purpose of exchanging them for fiat and transferring them to an offshore account.

This discovery contradicted his testimony, as he claimed that while working for Silk Road he never had contact with BTCs related to the platform’s operations on the Dark Web.

During the year 2022, the NFT market had already reached a staggering value of $20.44 billion, accounting for more than 72 % of the global digital asset market revenue, according to the study.

Projections indicate a compound growth of 34.2 % from 2023 to 2030 in the NFT market, demonstrating an exponential increase in the value of digital assets. This growth is attributed to the growing interest in digital ownership and the search for unique digital identities.

In El Salvador, the Ministry of Education started an exciting pilot program in collaboration with local Bitcoin projects such as Bitcoin Beach and My First Bitcoin. The program aims to train at least 150 public school teachers on Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies, teaching them how to make simple transactions through virtual wallets before returning to their local classrooms.

The news about this reward was spread through the official page of Arkham Intelligence and quickly spread through various media. The company made it clear that those who provide the requested information will receive a reward of 100,000 ARKM, whose current value is estimated at around 46,000. Interested parties have until August 17 to submit information that helps identify the person responsible for the hack.

It is important to note that for the information to be valid, it must be backed by solid research backed by data from the web and credible sources. The evidence presented must be related to the attack and offer clues as to who or those responsible for it.

Recall that the attack against FTX occurred in the midst of the chaos generated by the liquidity problems and the subsequent bankruptcy declaration of the exchange. At that time, a security breach was recorded that resulted in the theft of approximately $400 million stored in customers‘ wallets. The attack occurred between November 11 and 12, when large amounts of crypto capital were withdrawn from FTX and FTX.US.

During initial investigations, FTX General Counsel Ryne Miller confirmed the existence of a hack in progress and warned users to use caution and avoid accessing the exchange to avoid downloading malware. Subsequently, other independent investigations suggested the possibility of an inside job, leading to speculation that the attacker(s) could be members of the company with access to the cold wallets.

Although the authorities and various entities in the crypto sector acted quickly and managed to freeze part of the stolen funds, the identity of the attacker(s) and the destination of the rest of the funds remain a mystery.
