It will be issued by Anchorage Digital Bank, which is currently the only federally licensed crypto bank in the United States.

According to the executive, the launch of the digital currency aims to offer an alternative to the SWIFT settlement system, leveraging the Solana blockchain “to process in real time and without business days what banks take up to three days to settle.”

The bank’s biggest ambition is to offer real-time settlement, 24/7, including holidays, unlike traditional banking.

The USDPT stablecoin is the first launch in Western Union’s plans. Second would be the Digital Asset Network (DAN), a platform that connects crypto wallets to the Western Union cash network. And third would be the Stable Card, planned for the end of 2026, which “will function as a debit card that allows users to hold stablecoins and spend in local currency through existing card networks, focusing on high-inflation markets where demand for dollar-denominated instruments is high.”

Currently, four banks in the European country hold the MiCA license, granted by the CNMV (Spanish National Securities Market Commission), to offer cryptocurrency custody and trading.

Renta 4 Banco is the most recent to be authorized to allow Spaniards to “buy, sell, hold, and transfer crypto assets. In addition, the bank will be able to offer institutional custody, order reception and transmission, and the transfer of Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), and other assets from its digital platform.”

The first banks to obtain this authorization were BBVA, in March 2025, followed by Cecabank and Openbank, both authorized in July.

“Cecabank immediately activated its custody and order transmission services, while Openbank added a catalog that includes BTC, ETH, Litecoin (LTC), and Cardano (ADA), among other cryptocurrencies.”

It should be clarified that this expansion is not limited to local banks in Spain, since thanks to the “MiCA European passport,” entities from other countries within the bloc can legally operate in Spain without needing to apply for an additional license.

Some of these are Commerzbank from Germany, CACEIS from France, and Société Générale, which offer trading and custody services accessible to Spanish clients under the common regulatory framework.

The government has detailed that the project to launch the wallet was supervised by the Securities and Exchange Commission of Thailand. It also indicated that TouristDigiPay will operate within a “safe environment to ensure strict compliance with Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations.”

Visitors will be able to pay with this wallet at local businesses, where the local currency, the Thai baht, will be converted into cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, with the option of linking it to foreign debit and credit cards.

Authorities have set a spending limit based on the size of participating businesses. “Large spaces with electronic payment terminals will have a maximum of 500,000 baht per month (around US$15,300), while smaller businesses will be able to process up to 50,000 baht (just over US$1,500).” This measure will help maintain control over operations.

The launch of the crypto wallet joins the Thai government’s initiatives to promote digital finance in a key sector such as tourism, which has generated more than US$26.25 billion this year.

According to Espinoza, Resolution 540/2025 gives effect to the Supreme Decree enacted last May, which introduces concepts such as tokenized assets and blockchain technology, previously absent from Bolivian financial legislation.

The objective of this measure is to consolidate “a modern, inclusive, and regulated financial ecosystem that allows both public and private providers to enter the technological field with legal certainty.” The regulations apply to companies incorporated in the South American nation, as well as to foreign companies operating through partnerships with local entities.

By 2025, there will be five countries where these assets will be tax-free: El Salvador, the Cayman Islands, the United Arab Emirates, and Germany.

This situation stems from strong regulatory frameworks and an openness to transactions with Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, thanks to their security, speed, and transparency.

Regarding tax exemption, in the case of the Cayman Islands, cryptocurrencies do not pay income, capital gains, or corporate taxes, making them the ideal instrument for crypto traders and funds.

In the United Arab Emirates, zero tax applies to “all cryptocurrency activity,” and transactions also benefit from a strong and clear regulatory framework.

El Salvador, in Central America, declared Bitcoin legal tender with full tax exemption. The market’s leading cryptocurrency continues to gain national adoption.

Germany, on the other hand, allows cryptocurrency holdings for more than 12 months with zero tax.

Finally, in the case of Portugal, “long-term cryptocurrency gains remain tax-free; the NHR program boosts benefits for expats.”

With this trend, Brazil is among the largest stablecoin markets in the world, “driven by the search for digital assets that maintain stability and security in a changing economic environment” by offering individuals and businesses trading in the cryptocurrencies USDT (Tether), USDC (USD Coin), and DAI.

Stablecoin transactions in Brazil are a way out of the inflation and volatility of the real, the local currency. Furthermore, it facilitates remittances and digital payments, in addition to allowing access to financial services for managing money.

Inheritance wallets are emerging as a solution to avoid losing the cryptocurrency balance, as has happened to thousands of people around the world for different reasons.

If it is a case of forgetting or losing the password, guardians or beneficiaries can be designated who are able to help recover this information without compromising privacy.

In the event that the holder is still alive but cannot manage his assets, the heirs can activate these wallets through scheduled inactivity mechanisms, such as six months or a year, and if during that period there are no movements or authentication, the transfer of funds to the registered beneficiaries is activated.

Other fund transfer mechanisms are smart contracts or multi-signatures in cases where the conditions specified in such mechanisms are met.

It is important to remember that solutions must be foreseen to resort to in case of loss of the password of an inherited wallet so that the beneficiaries can restore it from other devices.

The bank plans to move towards the prototype stage to begin live operations in 2025. At the moment, it has not been announced whether the stablecoin will be backed by “bank deposits, money market funds or fiat currencies such as the euro or the US dollar.”

According to Maroto, the goal of BBVA’s stablecoin is to be used in the settlement layer of cryptocurrency exchanges. “We realized that blockchain technology can revolutionize the way we exchange value digitally and, consequently, change the way the financial system works,” the official told Fortune.

Regarding the decision to partner with Visa, he highlighted that they evaluated the company’s prestige and its adherence to European regulations, alluding to the MiCA Law.

Moroto hinted at the possibility of BBVA launching its own euro-based stablecoin, thanks to its extensive presence in Europe, and that it be used in “settlement in markets that offer tokenized assets, with BBVA managing the minting and burning processes to integrate these ecosystems.”

It is important to remember that the Spanish bank already offers custody and marketing services for “bitcoin, ether (ETH) and USD Coin (USDC) in Switzerland for private and institutional banking clients, and is currently seeking to expand into Turkey.”

Shareholders could also benefit from this decision.

Customers will have access to all of their assets that were blocked when FTX filed for bankruptcy more than a year ago and Sam Bankman-Fried was subsequently found guilty of the charges in court.

The order was approved by US bankruptcy judge John Dorsey. It is estimated that shareholders could receive “part of the $1 billion in seized assets.”

As you may recall, in November 2022 it was said that the platform’s customers could receive only a fraction of the funds. However, “by June 2024, FTX had accumulated $12.6 billion in assets, a figure that could increase to $16.5 billion once all the platform’s assets are sold. These assets include stakes in various companies, such as the artificial intelligence company Anthropic.”

According to attorney Ken Pasquale, representing the creditors, this decision could be the result of the cryptocurrency market’s rally over the past year, which has been beneficial to an increase in the price of FTX’s assets.

As a result, the exchange has been able to “negotiate agreements with creditors and regulators, improving customers’ recovery prospects.”

Customers have been critical of the refund, as it will be made in cash and not in cryptocurrency. “Payments will not be immediate either, as FTX is in the process of establishing a trust and hiring a company to oversee the distribution of funds.”

The measure comes in response to the increase in legal cases due to the multiplication of citizens prosecuted for money laundering since 2019 and involving cryptocurrencies.

“China’s Supreme Court and public prosecutor have revised their interpretation of the country’s anti-money laundering (AML) laws, recognizing “virtual asset” transactions for the first time.

Through a conference held this Monday, August 19, the Supreme People’s Court and the Supreme People’s Prosecutor’s Office indicated that through the new interpretation of the law, transactions with virtual assets “are included as one of the methods of money laundering.”

The laws prohibit “concealing and concealing the origin and nature of criminal proceeds and their benefits by other means.”

There are amendments related to cases of refusal to cooperate with the authorities or when the sum of money being laundered exceeds US$700,000 (5 million Chinese yuan).
