The system is already working properly autonomously, without depending on the electrical network, offering backup between 8 to 12 hours of energy that guarantees the continuity of all Digitel network services, including points of sale.

With this solution, the company makes the most of renewable energy sources since it achieves “savings in CO2 emissions due to solar contribution is 6.5 tons per year” resulting positively in the environment.

With these facilities, the telecommunications company continues to innovate in the sector to provide new opportunities in the development and expansion of services, especially in remote areas with difficult access.

Environmentally friendly technology

The president of the company, Luis Bernardo Pérez, expressed “we continue advancing with a technology that is friendly to the environment, renewable, low-maintenance and low-cost. We started with solar panels in Cuyagua and now we place them in Los Roques, giving continuity to an effort that represents progress and the future for telecommunications”.

According to the information provided by the operator, the installed solution is made up of “photovoltaic modules, batteries and a power conversion system”, with which the company can continue to provide “services in the area even without electricity and open new possibilities to the sector”.

According to Pérez, the use of solar panels in the telecommunications sector, in urban areas, will generate great benefits in the future because they are easy to install since space can be optimized (roof of booths).

On the other hand, it requires little or no use of diesel and the “cost of acquiring, installing and maintaining the solution is lower compared to other backup options when it is installed over time, since it considerably minimizes operating expenses.” Said the president of the company.

Hydrocarbons have registered a sustained growth in their prices during this 2021 in Brazil, stimulated by the revaluation of oil in the international market, coupled with the loss of the value of the Brazilian real against the dollar.

The rise in diesel during the year is equivalent to 65 % and gasoline in 73 % in the different refineries of the South American country, which had an impact on the final consumer. The increase in fuels has also caused, in a decisive way, the increase in inflation, which has exceeded double digits, currently registering 10.7 %.

Bolsonaro without control over Petrobras

The president of Brazil has complained, on multiple occasions, about the increase in fuel prices, especially forced by the heavy cargo sector or truck drivers, who make up part of the social support of his government and are now threatening to go on strike as protest measure against the increase in fuels.

On several occasions, Bolsonaro has declared that he does not have the power to manage and “interfere in Petrobas and that he will not control the prices of anything”, although at the same time he recognizes that he is “looking for formulas to change the calculation method.”

After several criticisms of the increase in fuel prices, last February Bolsonaro appointed Joaquin Silva e Luna, general of the army reserve, as Petrobas president. However, the adjustments continued and it is currently expected that the necessary measures will actually be taken to reduce prices.

During his inspection of the construction works of the Olympic Village for the 2024 Games, President Macron indicated: “The Government has mobilized and will have a response in the coming days,” but did not give further details.

The price of diesel was recently published, which was a historical record in France, achieving an average increase of 1.5354 euros per liter, which represents a 28 % increase and 95 octane gasoline is very close to the record reached in 2012.

Macron said: “This affects our compatriots, especially the most modest ones”, without underestimating the impacts it generates on the French population as a whole.

The government has already carried out some actions to protect its fellow citizens and in recent days announced measures to help those most affected by the sharp increase in gas. The president considers that the executive has greater sensitivity on these issues after the “tax hike on fuels” that occurred in 2018 and that generated strong protests by the movement called “yellow vests.”

This was indicated by the president during a meeting on the social network Facebook with the Executive’s economic team. Bolsonaro pointed out that the measures will take effect from March 1st.

The president explained that during the two months in which it removes the diesel tax, the Government will study a definitive way to set this indicator to zero. This measure, according to the president, will serve to offset the “excessive” increase in diesel and gasoline prices established by Petrobras, the Brazilian state oil company.

Bolsonaro warned that even though he cannot interfere with the autonomy of the oil company, it should undergo some changes in order not to carry out abusive price increases on fuels, although he did not disclose further details.

“I cannot interfere in Petrobras, but something is going to happen in Petrobras in the next few days. Something must change,” the president said.
