An official document published by the U.S. Department of Energy revealed Donald Trump’s interest in the recovery of Venezuela’s electrical system, an aspect that is, in fact, one of the priority points of cooperation between the two nations.

The document describes Venezuela’s electrical grid as “deteriorated and fragile after years of underinvestment and lack of maintenance.”

Data cited in the report indicates that Venezuela’s electricity generation capacity has fallen by more than 30 %, a situation that has a significant impact on “industrial production, oil activity, and the daily lives of millions of Venezuelans.”

Washington maintains that without a functional electrical grid, crude oil production cannot be recovered, “a key component of the agreement announced on January 6.”

The electrical system recovery plan includes “allowing the entry of equipment and spare parts—as well as specialized technical services—to address failures that have accumulated over the years.” This will create the minimum conditions for the country to increase its oil production and restore basic services.
