Venezuela accelerates housing construction for earthquake victims

The acting president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, assured that the government is accelerating housing construction to be given to those who lost their homes on June 24. The goal for this year is 4,000 units and 10,000 by 2027.

Official data indicates that during last month’s earthquakes, 850 buildings were damaged and 190 collapsed completely. Hence the need to provide a rapid response to the affected families.

According to Rodríguez, some 200 families have already received housing in social housing complexes. Simultaneously, the government is working on the reconstruction of homes according to current conditions.

Estimates indicate that due to the magnitude of the damage caused by the double earthquake of June 24, Venezuela will require approximately 25,000 homes.

Venezuela announced on Friday, July 17, that it had obtained access to $346 million of its own funds from the International Monetary Fund. The money will be used for recovery and to help those affected by the June 24 earthquakes.

This was reported by Venezuela’s interim president, Delcy Rodríguez, who indicated on her Telegram account that the government remains committed to the families who lost everything during the two earthquakes last month and to the recovery of the commercial sector in the devastated areas.

Venezuela merges Foreign Trade and Foreign Affairs Ministries

This Monday, July 13, Venezuela’s interim president, Delcy Rodríguez, announced the merger of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The official stated that the measure seeks to adapt to a new stage, with the appointment of international relations expert Félix Plasencia, who has extensive experience in diplomacy, as the new foreign minister.

“He will be responsible for directing Venezuelan foreign policy, defending our sovereignty, strengthening cooperative relations, and promoting peace diplomacy in the world,” a statement on Telegram indicated.

Plasencia replaces Yván Gil, the former Minister of Foreign Affairs, who will now serve as the new Minister of Science and Technology, a position previously held by Gabriela Jiménez.

Venezuela requests UNDP assistance to boost housing construction

The Venezuelan government requested assistance from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for housing construction following the earthquakes.

Although the actual number may exceed the estimate, some 17,345 people lost their homes during the earthquakes of June 24. Therefore, the authorities have requested support from the UNDP to initiate an immediate response plan, as reported by acting president Delcy Rodríguez on Sunday, July 5.

Rodríguez contacted the UNDP Administrator, Alexander De Croo, thanking him for the organization’s “willingness to support Venezuela in its response to the earthquakes, which left at least 3,342 dead and 16,740 injured.”

The president also requested support “for promoting educational programs, as well as job training and employment for the affected communities.”

Venezuelan Government deploys plan to ensure fuel supply

Interim President of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, instructed the Ministry of People’s Power for Hydrocarbons and PDVSA to deploy a plan to guarantee fuel supplies following the earthquakes of June 24.

Minister Paula Henao reaffirmed the hydrocarbons sector’s commitment to the Venezuelan people and the priority attention given to the affected areas, in addition to supplying the necessary fuel for the heavy machinery used in search and rescue efforts.

The official indicated that teams from both institutions are deployed on the ground to guarantee the direct supply of technical equipment.

“The operational contingency is being strategically managed from the Catia La Mar Distribution Plant, located in La Guaira state. Under the guidelines of Interim President Delcy Rodríguez, the technical teams are prioritizing the continuous dispatch of diesel and gasoline to debris removal sites, ambulances, and portable power plants, preventing any logistical delays on the central coast,” she stated.

Venezuela’s interim president, Delcy Rodríguez, announced the creation of a $200 million reconstruction and assistance fund.

Rodríguez emphasized that this fund “will allow for the immediate allocation of emergency relief funds to affected families, in addition to centralizing supplies at the Almacenadora Caracas, La Carlota, and La Guaira Coliseum collection centers.”

She also spoke about the recent meeting with representatives from the U.S. State Department and the International Monetary Fund regarding cooperation and multilateral audits.

She also referred to the humanitarian aid received, stating that “147 countries have expressed solidarity with Venezuela,” support that includes 31 multilateral organizations and the opening of an account at CAF for housing donations.

Official economic decisions are beginning to yield results in record time

It is a fact that official economic decisions are beginning to yield positive results, and this is happening in record time. The Central Bank of Venezuela reported single-digit inflation at the end of May 2026, the lowest inflation rate in the last 19 months.

The publication on the BCV’s official website also notes that the National Consumer Price Index (INPC) registered a month-on-month variation of 6.3 %, adding that “With this marked downward trend, we are entering a path of deceleration for 2026.”

The economic decisions made by President (E) Delcy Rodríguez have been firm so far in 2026. First, the restructuring of the economic team, appointing Calixto Ortega Sánchez as vice president of the area and then the economist Luis Pérez as president of the Central Bank of Venezuela. In addition, there is the call for the restructuring of the external debt and the reintegration of Venezuela into international organizations, such as the World Bank and the IMF, which adds transparency to the process.

This has led to and made possible a series of economic successes, including GDP growth in the first quarter of the year, as well as reaching single-digit inflation in May.

The aim is a more efficient exchange rate system to guarantee control of inflation and investment in capital goods

Finally, the Central Bank president had already warned of this, stating, “We are going to have single-digit inflation and a significant slowdown for the rest of the year,” which, according to economic analysts, is a major achievement after only a month in office.

The economic plan focuses primarily on the recovery of the oil and mining industries, which will guarantee economic growth, and secondly on strengthening a more efficient exchange rate system to ensure inflation control and investment in capital goods.

Ultimately, the recovery plan aims for a long period of economic growth with moderate inflation.

Coffee production in Venezuela reaches 4 million quintals

The coffee sector is currently thriving and maintaining positive growth, as highlighted recently by Acting President Delcy Rodríguez, who indicated that production reached 4 million quintals in the 2025-2026 period.

Of this production, 1.8 million quintals were allocated to supply domestic consumption, and 2.1 million quintals were destined for export.

In a message posted on his Instagram account on the occasion of the first community coffee meeting, held in Ospino, Portuguesa state, Rodríguez stated: “Coffee is one of the most important sectors, and the community economy already has the entire circuit organized.”

At the event, the Minister for Communes, Ángel Prado, highlighted the productive capacities of the organized community, “which currently contributes nearly 30 % of the national coffee production.” He emphasized that the conditions are in place to “deliver finished product to the national market, but also to export worldwide.”

The services are part of the “Health and Life 2026 Plan,” a public policy aimed at strengthening the public health system.”

During the inauguration, Rodríguez thanked the People’s Republic of China for its cooperation, stating that “this pilot center of the Hospital Universitario de Caracas is being equipped with Chinese technology.” He added that services will be provided in urology, gynecology, thoracic surgery, and general surgery.

For his part, the director of the University Clinical Hospital, Dr. Luis Lira, emphasized that this new “state-of-the-art multi-arm device will not only optimize the precision of complex surgical procedures, but will also have a direct impact on the teaching role of the university hospital.”

PDVSA signs agreement with Italian company Eni to increase gas production

The Venezuelan state oil company Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA) and the Italian company Eni signed an agreement on Tuesday, April 28, to increase gas production, amid the opening of the energy sector following the easing of US sanctions against the South American country.

The ceremony between representatives of ENI and PDVSA was held at Miraflores Palace in Caracas. Regarding this, Claudio Descalzi, CEO of the Italian company ENI, stated: “This will be one of the company’s most important investments,” asserting that they are the only company “that develops and supplies gas to the domestic market, so we never left Venezuela.”

The agreement guarantees ENI the exploitation of the Junín 5 field in the Orinoco Oil Belt, with estimated reserves of 35 billion barrels.

Furthermore, Delcy Rodríguez, acting president of Venezuela, declared that the agreement “marks a milestone in the relations between ENI and Venezuela” and explained that the objective of this joint project is to give an extraordinary boost to production.
