The Minister of Popular Power for Transportation, Francisco Garcés, indicated last week that the Port of La Guaira, one of the states most affected by the earthquakes of June 24, has recovered 92 % of its operational capacity.

According to Garcés, “the technical teams managed to restore a large part of the affected infrastructure in a short time, including cranes that had been taken out of service or derailed” as a result of the earthquakes in Venezuela.

Regarding maritime traffic, Garcés said that 1,447 ships were serviced in 2016, compared to 1,578 last year, although he specified that “the vessels received this year have a greater cargo capacity, which has allowed for the movement of a larger volume of goods despite the decrease in the number of arrivals.”
