The neobank and digital financial technology company Revolut announced the launch of its own stablecoin, EURR, backed by the euro and issued by Bridge, a subsidiary of Stripe.

With this innovation, it will be fully integrated into the Revolut app for eligible individuals in Denmark, Poland, and Portugal.

The initiative represents a crucial step for Revolut in its desire to “serve as a bridge between official money and cryptocurrencies. In this way, the fintech brings the euro into the on-chain environment and connects its traditional money, foreign exchange, and crypto asset services,” the company explains.

Revolut’s stablecoin was designed to maintain a value of one euro and is backed by reserves held and managed by the issuer, in accordance with MiCA regulations.

By the end of 2026, the neobank plans to extend the availability of the EURR stablecoin to the entire European economic landscape, as well as launch alternatives in other currencies, “something that will be contingent on the product’s maturity and its operational and regulatory viability.”

Selected customers will have instant access to the crypto ecosystem in euros, with “real utility for stablecoins that no other traditional bank or native crypto platform can match,” according to a statement from Emil Urmanshin, Director of Crypto and New Bets at Revolut.

During his television appearance, Quevedo explained that a growing number of businesses across the country have integrated cryptocurrency payments into their online stores. However, the analyst emphasized the importance of technical training to prevent financial losses: “…the public should seek basic training — through diplomas and courses at private national universities or specialized portals — to avoid making mistakes and prevent financial scams.”

Regarding the reach of this market, the specialist specified that between 12% and 15% of the country’s inhabitants regularly use or have used digital currencies. This proportion places the nation as the third largest market for digital asset circulation worldwide, ranking only behind Russia and Argentina.

Financial innovations and boost to the sector

The evolution of the local market has attracted the attention of global firms in the industry. Among the projected advancements is the introduction of the Binance platform’s debit card, an instrument available in both physical and virtual formats that will allow users to make direct payments by linking the balance of their digital wallets, following the operational model already implemented in other countries in the region.

Finally, Quevedo stated that the country must regain the initial momentum registered in 2018 to consolidate the formal and everyday integration of these tools within the national economic dynamics.

Microsoft issued an alert regarding cryptocurrency theft through the release of malware when an infected USB drive is connected to a computer.

The attack targets crypto wallets on Windows computers. The threat is particularly novel because it doesn’t involve the user opening a suspicious link; instead, it is triggered by inserting the infected USB drive.

“The worm intercepts stored shortcut files.” Once the user opens a file on a Windows computer, “the system silently runs an installer that places the worm on the computer.”

When activated, the malware monitors the Windows clipboard in real time. “Every time it detects a copied crypto wallet address, it replaces it with the attacker’s address. The user believes they are sending funds to the correct address; the real destination is another wallet.”

Copy and paste operations in cryptocurrency transactions such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, USDT, USDC, and any stablecoin are intercepted.

This worm is more difficult to detect because it operates in the background; there are no pop-up windows to alert the user, and it can only be noticed by reviewing the transaction history on the blockchain.

Experts mention some measures to protect your crypto wallet, such as “always verifying the last four characters of the pasted address before confirming any transfer, comparing them with the address displayed on the recipient’s screen.”

In addition, never connect USB drives of unknown origin to the computers used to manage crypto assets. This warning applies generally to any file query or download.

Furthermore, they recommend “using a hardware wallet with its own screen that displays the destination address independently of the Windows clipboard, since the transaction signature is performed on the physical device and not on the potentially compromised computer.”

The MiCA law aims to provide security, transparency, and oversight to transactions. The end of the transition period represents a significant reduction in the number of operators who will no longer be able to offer their services.

During the presentation of the first-quarter earnings, the CEO of Western Union announced the launch of its USDPT stablecoin, scheduled for May.

It will be issued by Anchorage Digital Bank, which is currently the only federally licensed crypto bank in the United States.

According to the executive, the launch of the digital currency aims to offer an alternative to the SWIFT settlement system, leveraging the Solana blockchain “to process in real time and without business days what banks take up to three days to settle.”

The bank’s biggest ambition is to offer real-time settlement, 24/7, including holidays, unlike traditional banking.

The USDPT stablecoin is the first launch in Western Union’s plans. Second would be the Digital Asset Network (DAN), a platform that connects crypto wallets to the Western Union cash network.
