Douglas Rico, national director of the CICPC, reported through his Instagram network that three citizens who made up the gang “Los Crackers de Oriente” and various equipment used in criminal operations were captured.

The members of the gang frequently entered the “accounts of retired PDVSA workers to steal the cryptocurrencies that the victims had in the Patria application, a platform that works as a wallet for the national crypto asset El Petro.”

Sophisticated method to get the passwords

A PDVSA worker reported the disappearance of his funds from the Patria wallet and the authorities of the CICPC Computer Crimes Division carried out the corresponding investigations, detecting that the fraudsters obtained the private keys of the users and entered the accounts of the homeland platform.

Once they managed to enter, they transferred the cryptocurrencies by falsifying the identity documents, later, the hackers exchanged the cryptoactives for bolivars that they transferred to their personal bank accounts.

The director of the institution did not reveal how the cybercriminals managed to access the private keys of those affected.

It should be noted that the information indicated that some deceased retirees were also victims of this gang of fraudsters, which suggests that they had access to the database of the workers of the state oil company.

He said cryptoactives are the future.

Buniak participated in the conference “Venezuela 2022: Opportunities and threats in an unequal economic recovery”, where he stated that once the country recovers the investment will be very expensive, for which he urges all those interested in investing to do so in these moments.

According to the risk qualifier, the worst recommendation that can be made is “that they save in bolivars; whoever saves in bolivars loses these currencies and the dollars”. Therefore, cryptocurrencies are a very important option to value.

“Cryptocurrencies are an inalienable option, because the crypto asset is the future. That does not mean that I am going to save on things that are not cryptocurrencies, like the petro” he stated.

Venezuelan GDP

The economist also referred to the recovery of Venezuela’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the coming years as a result of oil revenues. In his opinion, the income from the sale of crude oil will probably “multiply by three”, compared to 2020, as a consequence of the increase in prices of Venezuelan crude due to the war between Russia and Ukraine.

“We have lost almost 80 % of GDP. Today it is an economy of 14,000 million dollars, a dwarf economy that is going to start growing in 2022, in 2023, in 2024 and possibly in 2025,” he stressed.

On the other hand, the economist highlighted that it is estimated that Venezuela may be receiving between 19,000 and 20,000 million dollars as remittances in the next 3 or 4 years.

March 12, 2020, is remembered as the “Black Thursday” in the ecosystem due to the losses caused to the crypto assets of the world. However, after that date the market has experienced monumental growth, transforming 2021 in an amazing year for Bitcoin, Ether and many other digital assets.

Among the cryptocurrencies that have reached a greater growth during the last twelve months is, at first place, Game Stars (GST), which a year ago was valued at $ 0.40 and currently registers an increase of 41,882 %. It is followed by MIR (MIR) that was quoted at 3.73 dollars and has increased by 41.462% in one year.

Dogecoin (Doge) is in third place. It increased by 7.730 %, currently “each token is negotiated today at $ 0.283″, and is considered one of the most valuable digital currencies in terms of market capitalization.”

Other assets that register important dividends, in the last year, are Binance Coin (BNB) and Cardano (ADA). BNB registers an increase of 1,649 %, and ADA reports profits below 1,450%, during the year.

For its part, ETH registers a percentage equivalent to 630 % in its profits and according to the statistics occupies the fourth place. Finally, Bitcoin has experienced an increase in the order of 300 %.
