The United Kingdom continues to be mired in a political and economic crisis, which has worsened with the announcement of the resignation of Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who will remain in office until his successor is elected.

The nomination period for the position will begin on July 9. This election will take place before Parliament resumes its sessions in September.

Several names are already being considered to succeed Starmer, among them Andy Burnham, “who until now was mayor of Manchester and who last week won the seat that will enable him to lead the Labour Party and the country.”

If no other candidate enters the race, Burnham could be elected Prime Minister by mid-July.
