The Venezuelan Association of Agrotechnology (AVAT) was created at the initiative of ten companies in the area of ​​technologies applied to the agricultural sector, in order to provide support to producers.

This initiative is possible thanks to the alliance with the association arises in alliance with the Confederation of Associations of Agricultural Producers (Fedeagro), the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the Office for Industrial Development (UNIDO). 

Likewise, the AVAC will have the support of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture of the OAS (IICA) and ESRI Venezuela, a geospatial information company.

All those involved have stressed the importance of the application of new technologies for the development of the field and the optimization of the processes involved.

José Augusto Linárez, president of AVAT, indicated that the idea arose “two years ago with several agrotechnology companies” and has become a reality this November 22.

The manager explained that “the network of AVAT members is initially made up of: Siagrica, Agroo, Grupo Intag, Biofarm, Aerohelicópteros, Agrodrones de Venezuela, Sakura, Drone Pixel, Agrocognitive and A4Agro.” These are companies “with platforms in agrotechnology, with experience between 10 and 15 years and with applications made in Venezuela that satisfy the needs of the national agricultural producer.”

According to Linárez, the objective of the association is to “align with national development plans.” And he added that it is essential to increase production, reduce intermediation and increase the use of technology to achieve a decrease in the cost of food.

If the proposed precepts are met, with the use of technologies the sector could increase productivity by 20 % and reduce costs by 30 %. To achieve this, it is “important to encourage the adoption of technology and promote smart agriculture,” added Lináres.
