Venezuelan aeronautical authorities have completed tests at the temporary terminals of the Simón Bolívar International Airport in La Guaira state, and commercial flights will resume this Monday, August 24.

The temporary infrastructure, implemented after the structural damage caused by the earthquakes in the country on June 24, comprises four independent zones that will allow for the simultaneous handling of more than 1,260 passengers:

• International Departures: A 4,300 m² area with four boarding gates and a capacity for 780 passengers.
• Domestic Departures: A 3,300 m² area equipped with three boarding gates to serve 480 passengers.
• Arrivals: A 2,550 m² operational area, complemented by a separate 1,000 m² area for accompanying persons.

These facilities will offer maximum comfort to travelers: air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, device charging stations, medical assistance, vending machines, ramps, and assistance for people with reduced mobility, in addition to protocols in place for transporting pets.

Regarding the operational area, Runway 10 Right underwent a complete refurbishment to ensure safety during takeoffs and landings.

The U.S. government announced the lifting of the restriction on commercial flights by U.S. airlines in Caribbean airspace, as announced Saturday night, January 3, by Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy.

It is important to remember that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) “had temporarily prohibited the transit of commercial aircraft in the region, citing security risks associated with ongoing military activity.”

Airlines were forced to modify schedules or suspend operations, resulting in delays, complaints, and inconvenience for travelers. “With the lifting of the measure, airlines will be able to resume their regular operations starting at midnight on Saturday, as confirmed by the Department of Transportation.”

Starting on the evening of Saturday, January 3, air traffic began to normalize, and it is expected that “commercial flights will gradually resume their regular schedules.”

In a statement, the Venezuelan Airlines Association (ALAV) reiterated the suspension of commercial flights between Venezuela and Colombia starting this Monday, May 19, until the afternoon of Monday, May 26.

On its social media, the local airline indicated that cargo flights between the two countries will continue, and commercial flights will resume on May 26 at 6:00 p.m.

The statement says: “The aviation community, passengers, the tourism sector in general, and related parties are hereby informed that we have received notification from the aviation authority through NOTAM C0657/25 dated May 19, 2025, establishing the temporary suspension of general and commercial aviation passenger flights to/from the Republic of Colombia.”

Travelers with scheduled itineraries during the flight suspension periods between the two countries are advised to contact their airline to learn about the contingency measures that apply in this case.
