Last week, the extension of the flight ban to Aruba from Venezuela until August 30 was announced. The measure applies to passenger, cargo, and general aviation flights.

Last May, Aruban Prime Minister Mike Eman had indicated that the Dutch Embassy in Caracas had been operational to process visa applications as a key requirement for reopening the air border with Venezuela. The restriction was planned to last four months.

Regarding the decision to extend the air border closure for another month and a half, aeronautical lawyer Guillermo de Armas clarified that the restriction was “reflected in NOTAM number A0382/25 issued by the Queen Beatrix International Airport in Oranjestad, the island’s capital.”

According to the Aruban Prime Minister, “the measure is due, among other reasons, to the climate of global instability resulting from tensions such as the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, which has led the Kingdom of the Netherlands to act with greater caution.”

Regarding the embassy in Caracas, he emphasized that it is not yet ready, and the global situation remains uncertain.
