There are some tasks with a greater demand for professional training and technological equipment. But the important thing is that the United States space agency “has 29 citizen science projects, open to collaboration.”

NASA’s objective is to obtain “collaboration between expert researchers and people outside the academy”, because the greater the number of observations, the better the results.

The 29 citizen science projects “range from the search for the hypothetical Planet 9 to investigating the atmosphere of our own planet, including the search for exoplanets and clues about dark energy. And, of course, keep track of life outside our planet.”

Analysts estimate that by the end of 2022 it could be above 90 %. The way out of this crisis could be in the creation of the digital peso and the elimination of the current currency.

This measure, if taken in the not too distant future, would represent a 180° turn in the Argentine financial system. According to the former director of the New Bank of Chaco, Carlos María De Los Santos, one option would be to eliminate the “physical representation of the Argentine peso” and in this way speed up the processes that allow reducing tax evasion, currently located at 50 %.

There has been talk of the “Digital Argentine Peso” plan, which according to local experts would help reduce taxes in addition to opening the way to a surplus for the national economy. The plan is part of the need for a fintech strategy for the country, which especially proposes the creation of digital peso.

The digital transformation of the financial sector in the South American nation is, without a doubt, another crucial factor to achieve the goal of digital peso, with the due regulatory framework that provides security to all the actors involved and to the population of Argentina.

The Schengen area is a region of Europe made up of 26 countries that have agreed to abolish controls on their internal borders to allow the unrestricted free movement of people, goods, services and capital, following common external border control rules. All members of the European Union are part of the Schengen area.

In order to “improve border security” the member countries of the Schengen area approved that starting next year the ETIAS permit will be mandatory for people from “Latin American” countries that traditionally could access the Schengen area without a visa during short stays related to tourism and business.

The citizens who will need to process the new permit will be those from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Panama, Peru, Uruguay or Venezuela. While Bolivians and Cubans must carry out the regular procedures to apply for the visa corresponding to the country they decide to visit.

Steps to manage the ETIAS

Citizens interested in managing the European Travel Information and Authorization System must comply with a series of requirements:

Have a valid passport, debit or credit card to pay for the permit application, internet connection and an email address where you will receive the document once approved.

Complete the virtual form with personal data and passport data, as well as criminal records that will be verified with international organizations such as Europol. The time to complete the form will range between 10 and 20 minutes.

Once the application is approved, citizens will receive the ETIAS travel permit for a period of three continuous years or until the expiration date of the passport.

The travel permit allows you to visit any country in the Schengen zone for 3 months.

If the permission is rejected, the user will have the possibility to appeal the decision.

The cost of the ETIAS permit is approximately 8 dollars for all persons of legal age, while for minors it is free.

The campaign “False Coins: Cryptocurrency Scams” aims to raise awareness among citizens and support the identification of the different forms of theft that are carried out with cryptocurrencies.

The campaign addresses the different most frequent crimes identified in 17 Latin American countries and the European Union, during an investigation carried out by the Spanish Civil Guard

The campaign being carried out by the government of Uruguay is part of the “program called El PAcCTO initiated in the European Union, its objective is to help combat international organized crime together with Latin American countries. The project recently started disseminating data on the threats detected in the cryptocurrency market.”

In addition to raising awareness and educating citizens about this type of crime, the campaign also plans to collect information on the number of complaints generated in each country in order to diagnose their criminal environment and assess joint operational strategies between security entities from both regions.

Types of cryptocurrency scams

For the Ministry of the Interior of Uruguay, digital currencies are a “media phenomenon” and a brand-new legal and useful financial investment instrument as long as people know how to use them. But, in his opinion, as a result of this fame, a series of scams have appeared that, using cryptocurrencies as a hook, confuse investors to steal their money.

Through the messages spread in the campaign, the various forms of cryptocurrency scams are exposed. The messages show the six types of fake cryptocurrencies used to carry out the scams:

Web currencies: They appear to be web pages that offer cryptocurrency buying and selling services. The simulation is so high that it is difficult to determine its falsity.

AppCoin: These are applications that appear to be real wallets, but the objective is to obtain people’s data.

BesuCoin: These are platforms with the aim of meeting and looking for friends and partners. After a process of “seduction”, the virtual partner or boyfriend proposes to “invest in bitcoins, treating the proposal as a hoax”.

CelebriCoin: They use the image of a famous person, generally on social networks, so that people access a “fraudulent service or give your bank details”.

MailCoin: You will receive an email requesting you to change your password, and it offers you the opportunity “to get rich very quickly and, perhaps, on the recommendation of someone you know”.

PiramiCoin: Promises irrefutable dividends in cryptocurrencies and if you recommend different friends and get them to join the service, your earnings will increase. “They work like a pyramid in the style of Ponzi schemes.”

These types of scams were identified by tracking the modus operandi used by criminals. Police and prosecutors from Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Spain, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal, the Dominican Republic and Uruguay participated in the study.

The objective of the currency, known as Digital Jamaica or Jam-Dex, is “to make life easier for business owners and consumers,” said the governor, who also noted that “Jamaica’s economy is based primarily on cash, and a digital Jamaican dollar offers a safer and more convenient alternative.”

As will be recalled, the financial institution began the pilot test in 2021 with the slogan “no cash, no problem”, granting the equivalent of 16 dollars to the first citizens who participated in the test.

According to Byles, the use of digital currency will save money and the economy will be more efficient because the state currently spends more than “7 million US dollars” annually on the replacement of banknotes.

Jamaica digital currency on the market

The Jam-Dex currency will be for domestic use only and will operate under a hybrid model. It will be issued by the central bank to commercial banks and other deposit-taking institutions, which will be responsible for distributing it to the retail market.

The hybrid operating structure is similar to that recommended by the Federal Reserve, which maintains that central banks are responsible for “minting, issuing and redeeming the digital currency but are not involved in administration.”

The authorities have great expectations for Jamaicans to use the digital currency, as it is an accessible and free mechanism through an application that all Jamaicans will be able to install on their mobile phones.

Governor Byles is confident that people will be more friends with the banking network, which will increase the number of banked inhabitants in the country.

The information was published in the Official Gazette.

According to the publication, all citizens from Venezuela will be able to process visas at the different Costa Rican consulates scattered throughout the world. The information also indicates that people who wish to enter the nation as tourists may only carry out “recreation or any other activities for leisure, business or professional purposes, as long as they are not activities that imply remuneration or profit within of the Costa Rican territory”.

The visas will be valid for 30 days, extendable to 90 days. The information also indicates that once the entry to Costa Rica is authorized with the tourist visa and once in the territory, they will be able to manage the change of category to migratory.

Regularization of Venezuelans migration

The situation is becoming more complicated every day for Venezuelans who want to leave the country, due to the serious economic crisis that they have suffered for several years. Furthermore, many countries in the region have increased entry requirements. A month ago, Mexico made the decision to request a visa from Venezuelans and now Costa Rica announces the same measure.

The Costa Rican Immigration Authorities argued that the decision is due to “changes in global migration policy that have caused differences in the mobility of these nationalities.” Raquel Vargas, General Director of Migration and Immigration of Costa Rica, explained that the country is taking measures to guarantee a safe and orderly migration for Venezuelans, which is why “Costa Rica must also make the decision to establish visas for Venezuelans, thus promoting orderly, safe and regular migration”.

According to official data, of the approximately five million Venezuelan citizens who have left the country, 400,000 are in Costa Rica, but not all of them have been regularized.

In the words of Christine Lagarde, President of the ECB, “after 20 years, it is time to update the appearance of our banknotes so that Europeans of all ages and backgrounds can identify with them.”

She also expressed that the euro banknotes will remain on the market for a long time.” She stressed that the banknotes “are here to stay” considering it a tangible symbol and that it represents the union in Europe, especially in times of crisis.

European Central Bank appoints advisory group

European citizens will participate in the redesign process of the new banknotes, which is why the European Central Bank appointed an advisory group made up of a specialist from each country in the area, who will be responsible for consulting people on possible issues for the bills.

Citizens will express their opinion through the discussion groups that will be created as one of the first steps in the redesign process. The group will address the different proposals or topics for future bills.

Then, the advisory group will present the list to the Governing Council of the ECB, which once the topics have been selected will call a design competition for the new banknotes and the public will be summoned again. The Governing Council will be the one to adopt the final decision and issue the order to produce and print the euro banknotes and to establish the date of their issue.
