“This is the second lowest monthly variation reported by the issuing entity in 2016, only behind the 6.3 % recorded in May, and marks a significant moderation after the spike in July, when the CPI reached 19.9 %,” according to BCV data.

The August result reflects that the accumulated inflation for the year amounts to 200.1 %, while the year-on-year inflation stands at 534.2 %.

According to the Central Bank of Venezuela (BCV), August saw a recovery in distribution channels, along with less pressure on the foreign exchange market, reflected in a more contained exchange rate fluctuation and more stable prices for goods and services.

The central bank’s data showed the following double-digit monthly increases: housing services (excluding telephone) 12.3 %; communications 11.7 %; transportation 10.3 %; and miscellaneous goods and services 10.1 %.

On the other hand, household equipment increased by 9.6 %, while restaurants and hotels rose by 9.5 %, and housing rentals by 9.2 %. Clothing and footwear registered a 9 % increase, while alcoholic beverages and tobacco, and health services, both experienced increases of 8.9 %.

The smallest monthly increases were observed in the recreation and culture sector (8.4 %), and in the food and non-alcoholic beverages and education services sectors (8.2 %).

Regarding accumulated inflation between January and August, restaurants and hotels led the increases with 212.3 %, slightly above healthcare at 212%. Following these were miscellaneous goods and services (208 %), recreation and culture (204.8 %), clothing and footwear (202.2 %), and communications (201.7 %).

They indicated that “the decision regarding the amount of interventions has a component that transcends economics and is linked to the desires of policymakers.”

According to Pérez, the volume sold also depends on factors such as oil revenues, which have benefited from the conflict surrounding the Strait of Hormuz. He added that in the event of a drop in international oil prices, the amounts sold by the Central Bank of Venezuela (BCV) to the foreign exchange market would decrease.

For his part, Crespo noted that “given that the Central Bank of Venezuela itself was discussing figures, we can identify a range between 1.5 and 1.8 billion dollars, depending on market behaviour.”

To date, the economist emphasized, the BCV has injected approximately 9.2 billion dollars into the exchange market. Last July, the supply was 2.2 billion dollars, “and we hope that the market will stabilize and that exchange rate, monetary, and fiscal strategies will be defined to help achieve this. If the structural problems are not corrected, this will truly be a drain on the nation’s revenue,” Crespo warned.

This figure represents a 21 % increase compared to the same period in 2025, when the country received $4.518 billion.

According to the regulatory body, “the balance of payments, which breaks down income by sector, in a context marked by Venezuela’s opening to new investments,” promoted by the United States, which earlier this month indicated that exports reached 1.25 million barrels per day (bpd), the “highest level this Caribbean country has recorded in seven years.”

In this regard, John Barrett, Chargé d’Affaires of the Donald Trump Administration, said at the time that the increase in oil exports “was the result of the three-phase plan of Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the President”; that is, stabilization, recovery, and transition.

The regulatory body placed the year-on-year inflation rate (April 2025-April 2026) at 612 %, “which also signifies a slowdown compared to the previous month when it reached 650 %.” Data for January shows an average price increase of 32.6 %, followed by 14.6 % in February and 13.1 % in March.

The decline in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in April is attributed to market interventions aimed at stabilizing the exchange rate.

Thanks to auction mechanisms, it is expected that “approximately $1.3 billion per week will enter the market to continue stabilizing the devaluation of the bolivar and further slowing the rise in prices, according to unofficial sources.”

With an innovative campaign spearheaded by Claudio Nazoa, highlighting the effectiveness of the first Masterdebit card launched in Venezuela, Bancamiga has begun a digital campaign across various media outlets to familiarize Venezuelans with this process, which is fast and secure at Bancamiga.

Under the scheme coordinated by the Central Bank of Venezuela (BCV), the foreign currency will be approved by the BCV and credited to the client’s Digital Foreign Currency Account (USD) for electronic use with any Bancamiga Debit Card or by reloading their Prepaid Foreign Currency Card.

Get ready for the auction!

Upon logging into Bancamiga Online and selecting Foreign Currency Transactions, the Private Auction option will appear. Once the client begins the steps to create the foreign currency request order, the system will automatically initiate the opening of the Digital Foreign Currency Account (USD). After accepting the terms and conditions and completing the form indicating the requested amount and exchange rate, the request is finalized.

Once the foreign currency has been allocated, the client can use it immediately by linking their Digital Foreign Currency Account (USD) to any of their Bancamiga Debit Cards or by reloading their Prepaid Foreign Currency Card to make purchases, travel, or pay for services both within and outside the country. The allocation to the USD Digital Foreign Currency Account is done through Bancamiga Online or Bancamiga Suite.

If you’re looking for convenience, freedom, and secure access to your foreign currency, Bancamiga is your best option. Get ready for the auction starting Monday.

We’re sharing the campaign video promoted by Claudio Nazoa:
