This fund was “established by the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF) to centralize contributions from governments, international organizations, companies, foundations, and individuals under a common framework of transparency and accountability.”

In this regard, CBD President Daniel M. Best stated that this fund was created immediately after this tragedy as a response to Venezuela and is focused on ensuring that all resources are allocated to “emergency response, the rehabilitation of essential services, and long-term reconstruction.”

Meanwhile, CAF Executive President Sergio Díaz-Granados “thanked the CBD for a contribution that will directly support priority recovery efforts” and emphasized that they hope other partners will join this collective effort.

The CBD Governor for Venezuela, Ambassador Raúl Octavio Li Causi Pérez, highlighted the “show of solidarity with the Venezuelan people that will contribute to the recovery and reconstruction of the affected communities.”
