The elimination of these jobs represents slightly more than 10 % of the company’s payroll in Palo Alto, California, which has approximately 58,000 employees.

According to the company, the move “reflects a broader trend in the technology sector, where companies are investing heavily in AI development as they use this tool to reduce operational costs.”

HP has indicated that its AI adoption plan aims to achieve annual savings of approximately $1 billion by the end of fiscal year 2028.

However, industry analysts indicate that “AI automation is particularly impacting roles in customer service, content moderation, data entry, and certain computer programming tasks.”

In this context, HP CEO Enrique Lores stated that they plan to raise the prices of their computers and “work with new suppliers to help offset the high costs of AI-based computing.”

As you may recall, President Trump ordered the end of Temporary Protected Status for Venezuelans, generating various legal consequences. For now, Judge Chen’s ruling seeks to curb the impact on the lives of thousands of Venezuelan families.

The judge indicated that if the TPS revocation were implemented, it would cause “billions of dollars in economic losses in the United States and jeopardize public safety.”

According to Chen, “the government did not present evidence that maintaining TPS would cause significant harm, justifying its decision to preserve the program.”

Its main motto is “to create generally applicable humanoids that have a positive impact on humanity and generate a better life for future generations.”

According to the firm, its robots are created to “make people live happier and more purposeful lives.”

Figure models are already present in various industry sectors, such as automotive, transportation, logistics, and retail. However, they also perform optimally in household chores, as assistants to the elderly.

At the same time, the company has the ambition of, in the future, contributing to the construction of new environments on other planets.

As Brett Adcock, founder of the company, highlights, its work is aimed “at developing software so that its tools expand their capabilities and perform more complex job functions. Figures will never be used in military, defense applications or in any other function that requires inflicting harm on humans.”

One of Figure’s most recent business partnerships is with German automaker BMW for the use of humanoid robots in the assembly of its vehicles. The abilities of the Figure robots, which measure 1.7 meters tall, will be used in manufacturing processes, especially in those tasks that are more risky for humans, according to Robert Engelhorn, president and CEO of BMW Manufacturing.

The decision regarding these limits is related to a specific fact regarding the charging of high commissions for the use of crypto ATMs.

It is known that the bill was introduced after some members of the legislature visited “a cryptocurrency ATM in Sacramento and found price increases of up to 33 % in some cryptocurrency assets compared to their prices on cryptocurrency exchanges.” It is estimated that, on average, these vending machines charge commissions of between 12 % and 25 %.

Another finding by government officials was that there were crypto ATMs that had a limit of up to USD 50,000. From this situation, they estimated the need to regulate such high prices and withdrawal limits.

The owners of the companies that make these crypto ATMs available to the public indicated their dissatisfaction with the bill, arguing that regulators have not taken into account the possible losses for small operators who must rent such equipment. Additionally, they do not address the issue of customer scams.

However, Democratic Sen. Monique Limon, who co-authored the proposed legislation, noted that the “new bill seeks to ensure that people who have been defrauded in our communities do not continue to watch our state fall away” when real problems are occurring.

It is important to highlight that the project stipulates that cryptocurrency companies must obtain a license from the California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation before July 2025.

In the announcement, Newsom referred to the bill titled “Digital Financial Assets Law” that will establish the rules to which both individuals and companies must submit, in addition to “obtaining a license from the Department of Financial Protection and Innovation (DFPI) to carry out commercial activities with digital assets.”

The regulation of transactions with these digital assets in California will come into effect, according to the statement, on July 1, 2025. From that moment on, companies and people in the cryptocurrency trading market will be subject to “strict requirements”, auditing of crypto companies, as well as forcing them to comply with registration requirements.”

For five years after the start of operations, the licensee must maintain specific records, such as the accounting book with monthly records of all “assets, liabilities, capital, income and expenses.”

It is important to note that crypto transaction regulations in the United States seek to protect people from crimes such as hacking and unauthorized transfers.

“First Republic Bank, of San Francisco, California, has been closed today by the California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation, which has appointed the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) as receiver,” according to a statement published by the FDIC itself, which adds that “to protect depositors” it has proceeded to sell assets to JPMorgan Chase.

JPMorgan will “assume all of First Republic Bank’s deposits” and “substantially all of its assets” after submitting an offer to take over all of First Republic’s deposits. “As part of the transaction, First Republic’s 84 offices in eight states will reopen as branches of JPMorgan Chase, beginning today and during business hours,” it specified.

The FDIC has noted that “all First Republic depositors will become JPMorgan Chase depositors and will have full access to all of their deposits” at their current branch until the system changes are complete, while stressing that “deposits will remain FDIC insured and customers do not have to change their banking relationship to retain deposit insurance coverage up to applicable limits.”

The FDIC has also explained that both the agency and JPMorgan “enter into a transaction of shared losses on single-family, residential and commercial loans that it acquired from the former First Republic.” “The FDIC, as servicer, and JPMorgan will share losses and potential recoveries on loans covered by the loss-sharing agreement,” it said.

This is expected to “maximize the recovery of assets by keeping them in the private sector,” while adding that “the transaction is also expected to minimize disruption to loan clients.”

Finally, it has indicated that the decision “has involved a highly competitive bidding process” and “has resulted in a transaction consistent with the minimum cost requirements of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act. “The FDIC estimates that the cost to the Fund Deposit Insurance will be around 13,000 million dollars (around 11,821 million euros). This is an estimate, and the final cost will be determined when the FDIC terminates the receivership.”

From Los Angeles (California), the director of Havana, Havana (2004), Tocar y Luchar (2006) and Libertador (2013) expressed his satisfaction for the “pleasant” experience that the Bancamiga initiative meant and for being able to learn the history of Antonio Díaz, Federico Pisani, Amanda Dudamel, Henry González and Deyna Castellanos.

“From the very beginning, the idea of making a production that was motivating and inspiring seemed beautiful and inspiring to me, with Venezuelans who were achieving special things beyond our borders. From that moment we carry out a very beautiful work, always touched by that element that is inspiration”, said “Beto” Arvelo.

He recalled that the list of prominent figures presented by Bancamiga seemed very solid to him, with Venezuelans coming from different sectors, but who had in common to pursue their dreams and achieve what they had proposed from a very young age, sometimes obsessively. But in the end it was “that desire to insist, not get tired and move on” that allowed them to achieve their dreams.

“I was very moved by the story of Antonio Díaz, the first Venezuelan, Latin American and American karate world champion after seven attempts. He never gave up until he did. Most human beings give up the second, third, or fourth time. Despite the fact that he was also adding years to his life, Antonio went ahead and achieved it. That is being committed to your dreams. It is an inspiring message and an experience that had a huge impact on me.”

A smooth process with Bancamiga

During the preparation of the script and all the production and direction work, Arvelo had the support of a team that at Bancamiga was made up of Alberto Camardiel, director of Payment Media and Channels; Randy Carrero, VP of Audiovisual Production; Paula Vargas, VP of Marketing; and Amalia Llorca, VP of Communications.

He described the entire process as very “fluid” where “we always agreed. It was wonderful to work with the bank team, led by Alberto Camardiel. It was a super committed and extraordinary team. I presented an original idea, it was studied and adjusted. Bancamiga’s comments were very accurate. It was a very positive creative relationship.”

“I felt very comfortable with the feedback, because of that spirit of putting yourself in the role of a spectator. That enriches and I appreciate it. I wish one could achieve this empathy in all projects.

Despite this fluidity, “Beto” revealed that there were very difficult moments such as the filming of the Deyna girl segment, which had to be done under a torrential downpour, which at one point made them think about canceling the filming.

“We had a large group of children with their parents. There were extras and a huge production job. That day it rained non-stop. With the Bancamiga team we analyzed what to do and even thought about suspending, but that decision had many implications, because we were with minors and there were associated costs. We made the decision to do it with rain and the children were delighted. What they wanted was to play. The parents were also amazed.”

He indicated that despite the fact that it was a great challenge, the images were beautiful. You could see the rain and a greater effort. And all of that reflected a greater inspiration.

1 % talent, 99 % perseverance

With “Juntos hacemos equipo”, Bancamiga shows five Venezuelans who fight to build a better society and a better future: the karate fighter Antonio Díaz, the biologist and mountaineer Federico Pisani, the designer and viceroy of beauty Amanda Dudamel, the photographer Henry González and the soccer player Deyna Castellanos.

For “Beto” Arvelo, working on this initiative had great meaning in his life, because he loves to talk about values, about people who inspire and share positive messages, who fight and achieve what they dream of.

“Personally this is the type of campaign I like, because we bring an inspiring voice to others. I feel very grateful for being in this project. I think we are going to inspire a lot of people, especially a lot of young people. That’s how I felt when we showed the campaign. The reactions have been very beautiful, people are moved and some are on the verge of tears.

He reiterated that it is “exciting” to see Venezuelans who go through many difficulties, but who achieve what they want. “And I loved doing this production and it’s what I want to do. It is a blessing to work with such committed and special people”.

“This message from five Venezuelans goes to an entire country. It is a message to the world. They fall and get up again. That’s very deep. It is a fundamental message for young people, who often believe that they have reached a ceiling and cannot go any further. It is there when the magic and the difference begin. Gabriel García Márquez said that a writer is 1 % talent and 99 % perseverance. That message of persevering, of insisting, is what is behind this inspiring campaign.

It is scheduled to go into effect in May 2023, bringing California into line with US states such as Washington, Colorado and Connecticut that have passed similar pay transparency laws in recent months.

It builds on earlier legislation signed in 2020 that requires businesses with more than 100 employees to submit wage data to the state Department of Fair Employment and Housing.

“This is a great moment for working California workers, especially women and people of color who have long been affected by systemic inequalities that have left them earning far less than their peers,” said in a statement, senator Monique Limón, author of the bill.

Supporters of the new law pointed to recent studies looking at collected wage data and finding widespread gender and race inequality.

Assemblyman Tim Grayson has been in charge of submitting the bill, which is part of the regulatory framework for crypto companies in the state. In said project, crucial aspects are taken into account, such as “legal gaps and establishes regulations to recognize cryptocurrencies and their industry.”

Another issue that the project also focuses on is the granting of the corresponding licenses for digital currency transactions to Californian companies. The regulation is part of California’s push for Web3, digital innovation and development.

The project approved by the California Assembly must now be analyzed by the entity’s governor, Gavin Newson, who is an open bitcoin enthusiast. In any case, it will be necessary to wait until January 2025. Until that date arrives, crypto companies will need a permit or license from the Department of Financial Protection and Innovation, so that their activities can be considered legal.

The creation of a clear and friendly regulatory framework is one of California’s priorities, in order to provide security and support to companies in the crypto market.
